Appeal for change in property
values by May 31
May 31 is the deadline for all
real and personal property
owners to file property value
appeals with their county
boards of equalization. Ap
peal petitions are available
from county clerks' offices.
Under a new Oregon law,
the May board of equalization
in each county will hear all
real and personal property
value appeals. Under the old
law, the May board heard only
appeals from non-residential
property owners. Homeown
ers who felt their county ass
essor had over estimated the
value of their property filed
appeals with the November
board of equalization.
The new system is intended
to simplify the appeals pro
cess, since all appeals must be
filed by the May 31 deadline.
The board of equalization in
each county has the authority
to reduce property values if
the owner can show a different
value is correct.

perty owners can contact the
office of the Morrow County
Assessor.
Engagements
The parents of Tina Carmical, Lake Oswego, and Charles
McElligott, Kennewick, announce their engagement.
Miss Carmical is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Carmical of Tigard. A former Pendleton resident, she
graduated from Pendleton High School. She also attended
Whitman COUege and the University of Oregon.
McElligott is the son of Mr. and Mrs. CR. McElligott of lone.
He graduated from lone High School and Oregon State
University.
A July wedding is planned.

A reception honoring John
and Judy Maas will be held at
the Heppner High School caf
eteria Sunday, June 10, 3 - 5
p.m. John has been pastor at
Hope-Valby Lutheran Church
for the past six years. Judy
has taught first grade at Hep
pner Elementary for five
years. They will be leaving
for Prineville where John has
been called to be pastor of Our
Savior's Lutheran Church.
The South Morrow Chamber
of Commerce, the Ministerial
Association, the teachers of
Heppner, Valby Lutheran
Parish, and Hope Lutheran
Parish have each donated
sheet cakes and will provide
coffee and punch for the occa
sion. Everyone is welcome to
attend.
Preceding the reception, a
potluck dinner at Hope Luth
eran Church will also honor
John and Judy and wish them
well as they leave Heppner
and enter a new parish. The
potluck will follow morning
worship and a money tree will
be given to the Maases.
Valby will also observe the
Rev. Maas' last Sunday as
pastor there. The Sunday
worship services will begin
one-half hour earlier than us
ual, at 8:30 a.m. so that they
may have an extended coffee
and social hour to present the
Masses with a farewell gift.

honor Jeanne Dobb's, Jane's
sister, who is visiting here
from Maui, Hawaii.

Potluck to honor
McGovern
The Rev. Brian McGovern
of Saint Patrick's Catholic
Church will celebrate the 15
year anniversary of his ordin
ation as a priest on Friday,
June 8 announced a spokes
person for the church.
There will be a celebration
mass at 6:30 p.m. followed by
a potluck dinner in the Parish
Hall put on by St. Patrick's
and St. William's Churches.
Everyone is invited to help the
Rev. McGovern celebrate this
important day. Those plan
ning to attend are asked to
bring a fried chicken or plate
of ham and a salad. Rolls,
