He wasborn and raised in
Lrexington where he attended
school. He was married to
Eleanor Peck and they made
their home In the Portland
area until his retirement when
he relumed to Lexington. The
Rev.Stuart Dick conducted
the service.

Local woman aboard plane
diverted by bomb scare

pner, her daughter Frances,
and son -in law Walter Oslund
from Denver were among 433
people on a flight from San
Francisco to Honolulu which
was diverted to a Colorado
Springs airport where it land
ed safely following a bomb
threat.
According to an account in a
Colorado Springs newspaper,
an anonymous caller had de
manded 150,000 in small, un
marked bills in exchange for
telling the airline how to dis
'engage the pressure-sensitive
device which would activate
once the plane readied 4,500
ft. and would then explode
when the plane descended to
6,O0 feet when approaching a
landing in Hawaii. The ac
count concludes "The Colo
rado Springs airport is about
6,200 feet above sea level.
Planes are usually diverted
there or to Denver's airport,
also more than a mile high,
when threats of altitude-sensitive
bombs are received."
Wilkinson continues her
story, "We were to have been
taken by bus from Colorado
Springs to Denver, 50 miles to
another plane. In the mean
time a blizzard had dumped 18
inches of snow in the area and
closed the road, also Denver
airport.
"In due time a plane arrived
from Denver, picked us up and
landed us in Honolulu 14 hours
late."
