Clergy deplores violation of
right to worship in peace
To the editor:
An event has occurred in our
community which can be com
pared to painting a swastika
on the side of a synagogue.
Someone early last Sunday
morning sneaked into St. Pat
rick's Carholic Church and
stuck demeaning and inac
curate anti-Catholic leaflets
into their worship booklets.
As one would expect in this
type of act, there was no
identifying mark on the leaf
lets. Whoever did it only felt
enough "holy zeal" to do the
deed in darkness and isn't
accepting public responsibil
ity for their beliefs or actions.
We, ordained ministers in
Chris ts community in south

such violation of another's

What's happened?
To the editor:
What's happened that the
City of Heppner and the Coun
ty Court can't get along?
Jim Farley and I gave the
little County School House to
the City of Heppner "and we
thought it was good." Swee
ney, the mayor at that time
accepted it and cut a spruce
tree and staked a place for it
on city land. We put it there
and O'Connor painted it and
Weatherford put a foundation
under it. Making it city pro
perty. Then here comes the
fiasco about who owns it.

about $100 if the city could
paint it as they have a find gun
and a man, Rodger, who is the
best man I ever saw with a

in three hours, but the city will
not go for (20 worth of time to

Now, i n getting out of

go $20. Maybe they ought to
bum it down. Anyway. I with
