1984 Morrow County Fair &
Rodeo Queen Sylvia Ladd was
officially crowned during cer
emonies held Saturday night
in Heppner.
Sylvia will reign along with
her court, Princess Bridgett
Greenup and Shelley Stroeber,
over many activities and
events during the year.
Saturday was both a time
for reminiscing, and a time for
announcing future plans of the
Fair & Rodeo.
Shorty Peck, long-time sup
porter of the fair, and Merlyn
Robinson, 1947 queen of the
fair & Rodeo both spoke a little
about the history of the fair.

popular event at the fair, will
be held on August 13 and
entertainment will be Com
mon Touch, a band from
Vancouver which plays west
ern to rock music," he said.

Foirboord Chairman Charley Daley crowns new Queen
Don Stroeber, chairman of
the rodeo, said a new stock
contractor will be used this
year from Lebannon, and that
the Morrow County all-around
saddle award has been elim
inated this year, with the
money added to the open
rodeo purse.
"We are now NRA, WRA
and ICA approved, and we
hope this will attract more
cowboys," said Stroeber.
In addition to the queen and
her court, this year's pennant
bearers were also introduced
by chaperone Bobbie Angell.
All of the girls introduced
the members of their families
who were in attendance at the
coronation.
Child I.D. program set
Apr. 11-12
The Heppner-Ione branch of
the American Association of
University Women, Heppner
Lion's Club and the Heppner
Soroptimist Club announce the
rescheduling of the child iden
tification and finger printing
program to the night of April ,
11 and 12 from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The program will be conduct
ed at the Heppner Grade
School cafeteria room.
The sponsoring clubs ask
that the children be bought in
according to the following
schedule: Children with last
names ending in A-F from 5 to
6:30, April 11, children with
last names from G-M from 6 to
7:au, April 11, children with
last names from N-S 5 to 6:30
on April 12 and children with
names T-Z from 6 to 7:30 on
April 12. The clubs request
this schedule be followed as
much as possible when bring
ing the children to be finger
printed.
This program is conducted
in conjunction with Eastern
Oregon's Friends of Child
Find. The purpose of the pro
gram is to provide the parents
with a readily available pack
et of information which can be
used in the event of the child's
disappearance.
