Even though they lost 43-38, they played a heck of a game against the fourth ranked Pilot Rock Rockets Friday night at home. "I thought we played very well," said Coach Brent Eg gers, "We did every thing right but shoot free throws." Heppner would have won if they would have converted their free throws, connecting on only 10 of 21 Pilot Rock hit 17 of 24. Both teams also shot poorly from the field. Heppner was 14 for 46 from the field for 30 percent and Pilot Rock shot 34 percent. The Mustangs were only down by one at the end of the first quarter but were out scored nine to four in the second quarter. Heppner was down by six, 21-15, at the half. Rietmann was the game's leading scorer with 17 points. lone Jr. High girls finish season with loss By ASHLEY CONKLIN Ione's Jr. high girls' basket ball team finished the season at 1-9 after a 14 to 4 loss against the Stanfield Tigers on Thursday, Feb. 16. In the first stanza the Cardi nals fell behind three to zero. Stanfield scored the only two pionts in the second quar ter to lead five to nothing at intermission. The Cards scored two in the third period compared with five for the Tigers. Stanfield went on to win the game by a 14-4 count. lone Jr. High boys lose to Stanfield 1641 By ASHLEY CONKLIN In their final game of the season the lone Jr. High boys' lost to the Stanfield Tigers on Thursdd.v, Feb. 16, by a score of 41 to 16. lone finished the season with a record of 5-5. Stanfield controlled the first quarter and took a 14 to 2 lead. The Tigers increased their lead to 21-7 at halftime by taking the second period 7-5. In the third stanza. Stanfield built an advantage of 33 to 11. The Cardinals scored five fourth quarter points to the Tigers' seven as lone lost 41-16. Leading the Cards in scor ing with nine points was Ken Snider. Neither team scored many points in the first period as Helix took a 6 to 4 lead. The Grizzlies scored 15 second quarter points to take a 21-8 lead at halftime. Chuck Boyer scored 10 points in the quarter for Helix. Chris Rosecrans scored 12 third stanza points at Helix out -scored the Cardinals 15 to '2. Helix went on to win the game by a 47-18 count. Condon slams lone Jr. High girls 19-8 By ASHLEY CONKLIN Ione's Jr. high girls' basket ball team dropped to 1-8 after a 19 to 8 lass against the Condon Demons on Saturday, Feb. 11. In a very low scoring first quarter the Demons took a 1-0 advantage. Condon tripled lone's second stanza point total to lead 7-2 at intermission. The Cards were out -scored six to two in the third period and trailed 13-4. The fourth quarter belonged to Condon, 6-4, as they won the game 19 to 8. Kris Anderson scored six for lone. Chris Rea, Eric Pointer and Rod Taylor all had four for lone. From the foul line Helix made 5 of 15 shots for 33 percent. lone was 0 of 2 for zero percent.
