' ui pi f"ii Lexington News By Delpha Jones 989-8189 C.W.A. of the Lexington Grange met on Tuesday at the home of Ceri Martin in Hep pner. A short devotional was given by Delpha Jones. The roll call was answered by members stating their favo rite spring flower. Present were Joyce Buchanan, Josie Peck, Marie Steagall, Frances Smouse, Delpha Jones, Bar bra Cutsforth and the chair man, Geri Martin. Plans for the decorations for the tables at the National Grange in 1985 were discussed and committees were appoin ted for this. The date of February 24 for the District C.W.A. conference has been canceled because of illness of the district chairman. The dale of March 4 is to be the time the Pomona degree will be given by the Pomona De gree Team at the Lexington Grange Hall. A dinner will follow the 2 p m. initiation. A motion was made and passed to redecorate the grange hall and lay carpeting in the dining area. There were several projects suggested, and there will be a flea market in September at the Grange Hall. Refreshments were served and Marie Steagall won the door prize. Virginia Peck, assistant marshall to Kebckah Assem bly President Una Makin, along with Delpha Jones, at tended a regular meeting of Integrity Lodge at Milton Freewater last Tuesday evening. Let' not forget the contest to name the park in Lexington, the Garden Bugs have placed boxes for the suggestions in Lexington at Del s Market. The Amicitia Club met at the home of Barbara Cutsforth on Wednesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Peck have spent several days this week in Walla Walla to be near their daughter, Mrs. Randy Thurmond, who Is a patient in the St. Mary Medical Center there. The two Thurmond children are spending some time with their grandparents. Leila Palmer, Delpha Jones, Hilda Yocom, Joyce Peck and Dorothy Burcham attended the Umatilla County Kebekah Convention in Her miston on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Papineau are in Portland on business this week. Hilda Yocom visited Debbie Sharp and Teresa Thurmond at St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla on Monday. Lexington Grange met on Monday evening for a regular meeting. The extension agent explained about the prepara tion of seed beds, the control of weeds, seeding, and listed some of the best growing plants for this area. Pam phlets are available at the county extension office to help with gardening. A game of the counties and the county seats in Oregon was played with Carl Martin winning the prize. The meeting was called to order by the master, and the reports on committees were very good with Ken Smouse reporting on the Foley Farm Bill and the activities of the C.W.A. committee. Donations were allowed to the Grange Care Program, the C.W.A. scholarship and the project for the deaf. Mr. and Mrs. O.W. Cutsforth spent the weekend in Portland where Mr. Cutsforth was con sulting a physician and visi ting a daughter, Vesta. Alice Ling Cathy Barker An informal concert, open to the public, w ill be presented on Friday, February 24, at 7;30 p m., at the lone United Church of Christ. The singers are Cathy Barker and Alice Ling, both ministers in the United Church of Christ. The Kev. Ling, who will be visiting the Kev. Barker for a week, serves two churches in northern Maine. The two women shared an apartment while in seminary in New Haven. Conn. "It was a year of singing." recalls the Kev. Barker. "We sang in worship, at the coffeehouse, at parties, in the car, and always while washing dishes." Since gra duating, the pair has offered concerts in their churches in Montana, Vermont and Maine. The concert will feature folk songs, Scripture songs, rounds, and sing-alongs. The Kev. Barker will accompany most ol the numbers on the guitar. A potluck dinner will pre cede the concert at 6:30 p.m. in the cliurcy basement. The concert is open to the public at no charge. The two first place winners, Eric Thompson and Ann McLaughlin, will receive $700 each and will compete In a district contest. Second place winners Pat Struthers and Kristine Fish burn will each be awarded $300. Prizes of $200 will go to Sid Kennedy and Cathy Lindsay for placing third. v and the Rev. The winners were selected February 8. Eric is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Thompson of Hep pner. He plans to attend Ore gon State University and major in engineering. Ann is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob McLaughlin of Heppner. She wants to enroll at Willamette University for two years and then transfer to Oregon State University to major in pharmacy. Pat is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Struthers of Lexing ton. His college plans include majoring in computer science or astrophysics at either Ore gon State University or Whit man College. Kristine is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Fishburn of Heppner. She is hoping to major in business at Southern Oregon State College.
