Friday, Dec. 16. the Hep
pner High School varsity
teams traveled to Helix to
play a non-league game. The
Heppner Fillies played
Bgsirist the Helix Grisilies.
Heppner received the tip-off
to start off a very exciting
game. The Fillies started out a
little slow but picked up the
pace as they continued on the
first quarter. The Fillies took
the ball down the court and
went all the way for two
points. As the first quarter
ended the Fillies were in the
lead with a score of 9-7.
In the second quarter the
Fillies started to take control.

Both teams were pushing the
ball up court but Heppner
seemed to get the ball inside to
put up the shots and came out
on top at the end of the first
half with a score of 22-16.
The third quarter started off
well for the Fillies as they
received the tip-off but they
also started to lose control.
The Grizzlies were forcing the
Fillies to draw the fouls to put
Helix at the line for a chance
at the freethrows. But Hep
pner didn't let that go for too
long. The Grizzlies were
ahead at the end of the third
quarter. 32-34. but Heppner
received the tip-off in the
fourth quarter and the Fillies
were off to gain back the lead.
Heppner went to a man-toman
defense and was on the
ball all the time. As the Fillies
defense improved their of
fense also improved. There
was a lot of hustling out on the
court. As the Fillies pulled
ahead they continued to gain
on the Grizzlies in the last few
seconds of the game and w ent
on to win. The final score was
Heppner 48. Helix 44.
Pam Orr put up the most
shots for Heppner and had 20
points. Orr also grabbed down
the most rebounds with 11.
Stephi Payne passed ( three
assists and also had the most
steals with three.
"it's always nice to win on
the road, especially against a
good team. The girls played
with a lot of poise in the fourth
quarter and did what they had
to do to win." said Coach Mike
Rover.

The Heppner Mustangs ear
lier beat the lone Cardinals
and more of the same thing
happened Saturday night as
. the Mustangs raised their
record to 5 2 with a 56-41
victory over the Cardinals.
. Things started out pretty
even in the first quarter until
the last couple of minutes.
When Heppner jumped out to
a 15-10 lead, which would
never be relinquished.
The second quarter was
made of the same thing. Good
defense and offense kept the
Mustangs up at the half 29 21.
lone came out m the third
quarter hoping to get closer,
but just couldn't handle Hep-
pner's offense and was down
bv 12 at the end of three
stanzas,
It looked like it would be
another loss for lone, but one
hasd to have them credit for
not quitting. The Mustangs got
in there and turned the ball
over enough to allow lone to
get within six points, but the
inability to make up free
throws allowed Heppner to get
some good fast breaks and
score eight straight points for
the victory.
"I,et's just say we're right
where we want to be at this
point." said Heppner Coach
Brent Eggers on his team's
performance thus far,
(Ireg Orr led the Mustangs
with 17 points, 15 rebounds and
fi assisdts. Mark Wav also
grabbed 9 boards for the
winners.

victory over Condon
By TRAVIS HYATT
The Heppner Mustangs of
fense ran like a well-oiled
machine last Tuesday in a
63-27 victory over the Condon
Blue Devils. Condons tarted
off fast and actually had an
11-7 lead in the first four
minutes but Heppner quickly
scored 11 straight points to
lead 18-11 after the first quar
ter. More of the same happened
in the second quarter. It took
Condon five minutes to finally
score two points and by then it
was too late. Heppner out
scored Condon 19-3 in the
second quarter and were well
up at the half 37-14.
Greg Orr came out at the
