Pvt. Michael Johnson,
USMC. son of Robert and
Lois Johnson of Jackson,
Kentucky, had completed
basic training at Parris
Island. South Carolina. He is
now stationed at Camp John
son, North Carolina.
Johnson is taking a course in
diesel mechanics and elec
tronics. He says he would like to
hear from local people. His

Sheriff s Report
The Morrow County Sher
iff's Department at the Mor
row County Courthouse in
Heppner handled the following
calls, cases and reports during
the past week:
On December IS, a Morrow
County sheriff's officer re
sponded to a one-vehicle acci
dent about six miles north of
Heppner involving Debra L.
Sharp, 26. Lexington. She was
transported to Pioneer
Memorial Hospital in Heppner
and then by Lifeguard III to a
Walla Walla. Wash, hospital.
Also on December 13,
Boardman police arrested
Scott Wesley Garred, 28. of
Boardman on a warrant for
alleged Military Dessertion
from the U.S. Marine Corps
Headquarters in Washington
D C. He was lodged at the
Umatilla City Jail.
In a third December 13
incident. John S. Williams, 19,
of Irrigon, was arrested by a
sheriff's deputy for alleged
Fourth Degree Assault. He
was lodged at the Umatilla
City Jail.
On December 14, a sheriff's
deputy responded to a one
vehicle accident on Highway
206 between Condon and Hep
pner. Driver of the vehicle
was Cheryl Van Swoll, 18, of
Fossil. No citations were
issued. She sustained minor
bumps and bruises.
On December 16. Boardman
Rescue No. 1. 2 and 4 respon
ded to a tractor -trailer on fire
at the Boardman rest area.
There were no injuries. The
tractor-trailer was totaled.
Also on December 16. Mark
Louis Acheson, 27. of Board
man, was arrested by a she
riff's officer for alleged
Fourth Degree Assault,
Menacing and Harrassment.
He was dtaken to the Umatilla
City Jail where he posted bail
and was released.
In a third December 16
incident. Homer G. Prichard
of Boardman reported the
theft of 30 to 36 sections of
irrigation pipe.
Rietmann
arrives for duty
Spec. 4 Brian Rietmann, son
of Bill and Marilyn Riet
mann of lone, has arrived for
duty in Heidelberg, West
Germany.
Rietmann. a military police
specialist with the 529th Mili
tary Police Company, was
previously assigned at Fort
Hunter Liggett. Calif.
His wife. Sharon, is the
daughter of Howard and June
Crowell of lone.
The specialist received an
associate degree in 1980 from
Blue Mountain Community
College. Pendleton.

William P.
PENDLETON -William P.
Kilkenny. 78. of Pendleton,
died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1983, at
St. Anthony Hospital in Pen
dleton. He was born in Portland
August 5. 1905. the son of John
S. and Roseann Curran Kil
kenny, who had come to Hep
pner from Ireland. He atten
ded Alpine School. St. Joseph
Academy in Pendleton, Col
umbia Prep High School in
Portland, and was graduated
from the University of Wash
ington in 1927.
He worked w ith his father in
the sheep business until 19:19,
when his father died. In 1945
he moved to Pendleton.
On September 24, 1949, he
married Betty H. Laurence in
St. Mary's church. After work
ing in the cattle business, he
retired in 1976.
Funeral mass was read at
St. Mary's Catholic Church in
Pendleton on Friday. Dec. 16.
Interment was at Olney
Cemetery, Pendleton.
Mr. Kilkenny worked many
years with Alcoholics Anony
mous, and helped found the
Eastern Oregon Alcoholism
Foundation. He served 17
years as a board member of
the foundation. He also spear
headed the building and fund
ing of the Pendleton Half Way
House
Active in the charitable or
ganization called FISH, he

Sisk. Pendleton, died Wednes
day. Dec. 14. 1983. at the
Oregon Health Sciences Uni
versity. Funeral services were held
Monday. Dec. 19. at Folsom
Bishop Funeral Chapel, with
burial at Olney Cemetery,
Pendleton.
Matthew was born Dec. 12.
1983 in Pendleton.

He was bom and raised in
Morrow County and for many
years was manager of the
Tum-A-Lum Lumber Co. at

Survivors include his wife,
Betty Kilkenny, Pendleton;
dauchters Ann Kottkamp and
Tricia Roylen. Pendleton;
four sisters: Sara Cohn of
Pendleton. Ilene Laughlin and
Colleen Greenup of Heppner,
and Rose Chadburne of San
Francisco. Calif. ; brothers
Uurice) John F. of Portland,
and Robert of Lexington; nine
grandchildren and one great
grandchild. A sister, Mary
Ann Lillevand, died earlier.

The lone Garden Club's an
nua! Christmas party was held
last Wednesday at the festive
ly decorated ranch home of
Elmer and !,orraine Ladd.
Ten members enjoyed a lun
cheon of Ladd's roast beef
with assorted salads and des
serts brought by members,
reports a club spokesperson. -
President Iiree Hubbard
presided over the business
meeting, at which plans were
made for the club's annual
Rurnina of the Greens cele
bration, The Twelfth-night Burning
of the Greens event was begun
in lone many years ago to give
holiday greenery a re
spectful departure and to pre
vent their becoming a litter
problem, the spokesperson
explained.
