The lone Jr High football
team lost its second game of
the season on Thursday. Oct.
29 The Echo Cougars beat
lone 34 to 12.
Both of the Cardinals'
touchdowns were in the first
half and both were from Ken
Snider.
lone had a good game offen
sively, gaining over 100 yards,
but the Cardinals made some
costly defensive mistakes
which led to Cougar scores.

lone controlled the ball for
most of the game, but when
the Cougars had the ball they
scored quickly and that was
the difference in the contest

mented. "Defensively, we had
our worst game of the year.
We weren't mentally tough for
this game and we weren't
ready. We hud a lot of arm
tackling and we can't have
that."

In three close games the
Heppner "C" team defeated
the lone volleyball team 15-12.
9-15. 15-12 on Monday. Oct. 17.
The Fillies took advantage
of Cardinal mistakes and got a
lot of momentum going, and
as a result lone couldn't stop
Heppner. Ione's record fell to
2-7.
Local

second place award in calf
roping during a home meet
October 14 and 15, reported

sity. Cal Poly is located in San
Luis Obispo. Calif.
The Cal Poly team placed
first in the meet.

Falcons at 6pm on Friday.

was over, the Arlington Hon
kers won the Rig Sky Con
ference football game 20-20.
lone fell to 2-2 and into a tie
with Condon for third place,
The Cardinals can still make
the plavolis if Arlington loses
another game.. of if lone can
win their last two games by
large enough margins.
The Honkers look the open

ran three yards on a reverse,
putting Arlington up 6 to 0,
lone had only three plays in
the first quarter and punted.

for the conversion giving a
1-1 0 lead for the Honkers at

During halflime, Michelle
Beeson was crowned Queen of
the Homecoming Court in a
special ceremony. Princesses
were Mary Ann Alvarado.

Gronqtiist threw 27 yards
to Bryan Childers. increasing
the lead to 20-0. lone came
right back with Craig Hams
running four yards for a score
in the third quarter and a
23-vard touchdown pass from
Mark Meyers to Handy
McCabe. Hams' conversion
made the score 2(M4 in the
fourth stanza.
But Bittinger sprinted 44
yards for a touchdown, which
later proved to be the dif
ference in the contest.
McCabe received another
Meyers scoring tos, this one
of 19 yards. The Cardinals
used an onside kick to get the
ball back but Gronqtiist inter
cepted an lone pass at the
five-yard line and Arlington
ran out the clock to hold on for
the victory.
Offensively, for Arlington,
Bittinger ran 24 times for 235
yards and Mike Davidson
carried 19 times for 109 yards.
' Howard Leavitt had 94
yards on IB rushes for the
Cards! Meyers passed for 225
yards, on 13 completions out of
25 attempts
Defensively. lone lineback
ers Meyers and Hams had 24
and Ifi tackles respectively.
Head Coach Ron Mack
commented. "We showed a lot
of character by coming back
in the second half and not
quitting, but we have to start
playing football before the
fourth quarter "
