Allhough the school district
made no definite commitment
to the project, it did say it was
interested.
"We have spent very little
on playgrounds in the Heppner
area the past 10 years, and
this is something we may want
to look at." said Superinten
dent Matt Doherty.
Doherty said the baseball
diamond would be of value to
the district as a better place to
hold games. The high school
now plays its games at the
fairgrounds.
The campground project,
which was initiated by the
Development Corp., would
include overnight camping
sites, restrooms. a picnic
shelter and a ball field. Pro
posed site for the project is at
the upper end of the new
Willow Creek Lake, which was
formed by construction of the
Willow Creek Dam.
Some funding for the project
may come from the Corps,
with in-kind work such as
laying sod. building picnic
tables and other work being
provided locally.

The group said the policy did
not prohibit boardmember
