JV Fillies outplay Stanfield
Tigers 2 matches to one
By DANA REID
The HHS JV Fillies played
the Stanfield Tigers on Octo
ber 11. The game was playd
at Stanfield. ft
In the first match, the Fil
lies came out on the floor and
were not fired up enough. The
Heppner girls just weren't
playing their best. Their
serves were going over, but
the players weren't moving
and talking enough to return
the ball when the Tigers sent it
over the net. The first match
went to Stanfield with a score
of 15-3.
For the second match, the
Fillies came out fired-up and
ready to win. The match was a
tough one. but both teams
worked hard. The Fillies were
talking and really hustling for
the ball because Stanfield was
sending the ball over every
where. The Fillies played well
enough to win the match. The
score was 15 to 10.
Both teams came out ready
to win in tne third match. The
Fillies were really playing
good ball. They were sending
the ball over to Stanfield
where they weren't ready for
it. Heppner was ahead most of
the match, but the score was
close all the way through the
game. Stanfield's serves were
hard but the Fillies were
ready for them and received
them very well. The bumps
were right up to the setter, and
then to the spiker with a good
hard spke. There was a lot of
net play in the third match.
Heppner did very well. They
got the ball right back over the
net. The game was close but
Heppner won. The score was
15 to 7.
"We weren't into the first
game at all, no team work. We
didn't move or communicate.
We decided to play volleyball
in the second match. We still
had trouble with communica
tion but improved our team
work. We finally got our
serves going better the third
game and outplayed Stan
field." said Coach Karen
Howe.
mistakes but made up for
them during the rest of the
match. Their serves were
very consistent and they were
really playing team ball. They
were communicating very
well. They were moving all the
time and hustled for the ball
everywhere. Heppner was
covering the court very well.
The Fillies played an all
around awesome match and

In the second match, the
Fillies were a little tired, but
they didn't let Umatilla see
that. The match was really
tough and was an excellent
one- to watch. The Fillies
didn't do quite as well as they
could have, but stayed right in
there. Umatilla's serves were
tough ones to receive, but the

In the second game, the
Fillies were a little depressed.
They weren't moving quite
enough, and didn't want to win
badly enough. The Vikings
outplayed the Fillies and won
the match for the game. The
score was again 15 to 5.
"No one wanted to win too
terribly bad. There were
moments when people wanted
to. but not over all. We had no
spirit: we didn't get up and
go." said Heppner Coach
Karen Howe.

The third match was very
important for both teams. It
decided who won the game.
Both teams wanted to win.
Heppner was really fired-up
and ready to play. The Fillies
moved well and were ready
for the ball to go anywhere.
The score was close and both
teams were hanging In there
as the game went along.
Heppner dropped back a little
in the score. They just weren't
moving as much. They lost
their consistency and spirit.
The Fillies made a few mis
takes and were a little upset so
they werent playing as well as
they could have. The match
was tough but Umatilla came
out on top and won the match
for the game. The score was 15
to 3,
"The Fillies are a very good
team and they started out
playing a very good game. As
the game went along, the
Fillies stopped supporting
their teammates. In order to
have a chance to get to dis
trict, they must win the rest of
their league games. ! think
they can do it. if they keep
their spirit and want it badly

Heppner fan.
The Fillies will meet Stan

teams went out ready to play.
The match consisted of mostly
bumps but both teams were
hustling to get the ball over
the net. Heppner's serving
was very good. The Fillies
were getting most of the balls
over. It was a close match, but
the Fillies didn't return the
ball quite enough to pull
through so the match went to
Umatilla. The score was
Umatilla 15. Heppner 13.
For the second match,
Heppner came out a little
upset but knew they had to win
so they stayed right in the
