The Oregon Crop and Live
stock Reporting Service has
released the following Crop
Report:
Oregon winter wheat pro
duction, based on conditions
as of Augusdt 1, is estimated
at 61.1 million bushels, one
percent more than last yar. A
higher average yield more
than offset a decline in acres
for harvest this year. The
average yield of winter wheat
is expected to be 63.0 bushels
per acre compared with 55.0
bushels per acre harvested
last year. Acres for harvest is
estimated at 970.000 acres
compared with 1.100,00 acres
a year ago.
Spring wheat production
was placed at 3.8 million
bushels, four percent less than
last year. All wheat produc
tion amounts to 64.9 million
bushels, just fractionally
above last year's production.
Nationally, all wheat produc
tion is forecast at 2.42 billion
bushels, down 14 percent from
the 1982 record high produc
tion. Barley production in Oregon
is estimated at 18.1 million
bushels with an average yield
of 67.0 bushels per acre.

Other Oregon crops forecast
as of August l are as follows:
Oat production at 5.0 million
bushels. 26 percent less than
last year's; corn for grain

million tons, 10 percent more
than last year; all other hay
production, 1.3 million tons,
nine percent above 1982; hop
production, 11.0 million
pounds. 16 percent less than
lust year; sugar beet produc
tion. 292.000 tons, 16 percent
above 1982.
The first forecast of the 1983
Oregon plum and prune pro
duction is placed at 26,000
tons, down 13 percent from
last year's 30.000 tons. Nation
ally, excluding California, the
crop is estimated at 60,800 tons
for 1983. two percent above the
1882 crop.
Bartlett pear production in
Oregon is estimated at 76,000
tons, nine percent above last
year. All other pears are
