LETTERS"
Appreciate help
To the editor:
I would like to take the
opportunity to let you know
about several citizens of your
community there in Heppner.
On Saturday, July 23, my wife
and I developed truck
problems right outside of
Heppner. We were on our way
to get wood and were pulling a
large trailer. I began walking
to town and someone picked
me up and drove me there to
try to get help. Jim Lankford
offered his help as I got into
town and drove me back to
where the truck was located.
Next, he pulled me (truck and
trailer) back into Heppner.
Right as we got into town at a
service station lot, the rear
axle broke and the tires came
off. So, the situation got worse
for us; stranded there with no
possible transportation. Jim
got help from Steve Lankford
and from Mrs. Fortenberry
and son Jeff. They began what
was an all-day project to try to
load the truck onto the trailer
to bring us back to Richland,'
Washington.

OWNED
editor
after many hours of hard work
- and a long drive back to
Richland, we finally made it
home.
Our thanks go to Jim and
Steve Lankford for many
hours of work and driving
time, Jeff Fortenberry and his
mother, who provided the
wrecker used to load the truck
onto the trailer, and all the
efforts that that took. To Jim
and Steve for towing us back
into Richland. To Jim
parents, who at the time were
having a yard sale, but took
time to help find parts, and for
the loan of their truck to pull
the trailer. And to all the
others who stopped by that
day to see if we needed help.
If ever we were in a desper
ate situation and needed help
it was on Saturday. We really
appreciate all the help given
to us that day. If ever there is
a doubt about citizens in Hep
pner giving help - refer them
to us - we will be glad to sing
their praises.
