By BIRDINETVLL1S
Program Assistant

NoeSla Rill and Paula Plo
charsky. both of Heppner,
have been learning about 4-H
in Canada during the past
week, thanks to the annual
exchange carried out by Ken
Killingsworth, Wheeler Coun
ty agent, and 4-H staff in
' British Columbia.
Each year. Killingsworth
travels to Canada to judge
livestock shows, and offers
one 4-H member from the
four-county area of Wheeler,
Gilliam. Morrow, and Sher
man, the opportunity to travel
along with him. and live with
host families for a week. This
year Morrow County got lucky
and were able to send two
exchangees when one from
another county was unable to
go at the last minute.
The second stage of the
annual exchange is near coun
ty fair dates, when members
from Canada travel to Oregon
to spend a week in the counties
involved in the exchange.
"We've had nothing but the
most enthusiastic reports
from kids involved in the
exchange over the past few
years. It is not a huge ex
change, but it sure is crea
ting some friendships between
Oregon and Canada." accor
ding to Killingsworth.
Any 4-H'er of high school
age is eligible to apply for the
opportunity. Those interested
should contact Birdine at the
Extension office in Heppner to
get their name on the waiting
list.
