Lexington Grange met on
Sunday with a special meeting
for the purpose of initiating
subordinate degrees of the
grange. Dot Halvorsen was
acting master and her hus
band, Lewis, was steward.
The following members of
Lexington Grange held of
fices: Charles Buchanan, lec
turer; Lyle Peck, overseerer;
Cecil Jones, gatekeeper; Ma
rie Steagall. chaplain; Hilda
Yocom, L.A.S.; Joe Yocom,
assistant steward; Joyce Bu
chanan, Ceres; Josie Peck,
Pomona; Charlene Papineau,
Flora; and Delpha Jones, sec
retary. Those from Willows Grange
taking the degree work were
Jim and Monica Swanson,
Otto and Louise. Mortinson,
Patty and Allen Peck. Linda
Marquardt and Carl Martin.

Following the first two de
grees the group recessed for a
fine potluck dinner and later
enjoyed the third and fourth
degrees.

Akers and Rolland and Delta
Johnson. Mr. Johnson is
Wheatland Pomona master.
The guest spoke a few words
following the meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Mar
quardt were honored with a
lovely wedding cake adorned
with wedding rings, wedding
bells and white doves. Punch
and coffee were also served.
The grange gave the young
couple a gift, and many stayed
to help them celebrate. Other
gifts and a money tree were
also given.
The Doug Marquardts were
also honored with a reception
at the Community Hall in
McMinnville one day last
week with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ed Biddlecomb, Mr.
and his parents Mr. and Mrs.
Bill Marquardt, as hosts. The
colors of pink and white were
carried throughout the recep
tion. There was a lovely three
tiered cake with two white
doves and golden wedding
rings adorning the top.

and Jana, Mrs. Randy Hughes
and children, Mr. and Mrs.

Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nel
son have been visiting in
Connecticut and other places
on the East Coast thispast
week.
Venice Hendrickson was a
recent caller at the home of
her daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Yocom.
Millie Yocom was attending
to business matters in Board
man one day this week. She is
recuperating at the home of
her parents after major sur
gery. Charlene Whitney, Mr. and
Mrs. Glen Davis, Frank Wil
cox and Ken and Linda Jones
and Chris and Mike were
callers at the Cecil Jones
home and enjoyed a birthday
dinner honoring Kenneth
Jones. Saturday they attended
the graduation exercises of
Hermiston High School. Melis
sa Smith, a cousin, was in the
graduating class. On Sunday
evening, Mr. and Mrs. G.E.
Irvin joined the group at the
Jones home for dinner.
Friends are happy to hear of
the graduation of Penny Mar
quardt, daughter of Rena and
Bill Marquardt, on June 12 at
the Memorial Coliseum in
Portland where she will re
ceive a B.A. in English and
language communications. All
are cordially invited to attend
and no card is necessary.

potluck dinner was enjoyed by
a good crowd. A beautiful
decorated cake in colors of
peach, blue and white was
served at dessert time. The
young couple received many
fine and useful gifts.
Minerva Denslinger of The
Dalles is visiting with her
daughter and husband, Mr.
and Mrs. Orville Cutsforth.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth,
Smouse are out again after a
bout with the flu which kept
them confined to their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Papineau
had weekend guests from
Tacoma, Wash.
Mr. Keith Padgett, Ruth
McCabe and Delpha Jones
met at Beecher's Cafe on
Friday where Mr. padgett
received the family stories
fodr the Morrow County His
tory Book.
The Lexington Garden Club
met for a regular meeting at
Donna Papineau's home.
Those present were: Kathy
Tellechea, Dorothy Burcham,
Luelia Taylor. Marie Steagall,
Jean Brazell, Shirley McCarl
and the hostess.
There was a discussion on
helping the Heppner Garden
Club with this year's fair
activities. Jean Brazell was
appointed to check into this
matter.
Plans are going forward
with work around the Rebekah
and Oddfellow Hall in Lexing
ton. The grass and weeds have
been sprayed and the group
will clean this up and prepare
the grounds this fall for a park
in the spring. Plans for shrubs
and rose plantings are being
made. This will be a memorial
park honoring the Rebekah
sisters who have passed away.
Dorothy Burcham told of the
fine trip visiting the Condon
Garden CTub, and of their
projects and ideas that may be
adaptable to the Lexington
club.
The Yard of the Month was
won by two fine gardeners,
Luelia and Bob Taylor. Drive
by and have a look at their
beautiful home. Much work
has been done with both shar
ing in this project.
Kathy, the president, pre
sented each member with a
petunia.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Jean Brazell on
June 2 at 1 :30 p.m. following a
short business meeting the
group will tour the yards of the
members in Lexington.
Everyone is welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. John Telle
chea and sons and Mr. and
Mrs. Bob Taylor are returning
home after several days on the
Oregon coast.

Joanna Bown, an American Field Service student from
South Africa, who attended Heppner High School this year,
presented her country's flag to Student Body President Wet
Marlatt during an awards assembly last Monday, May 23.
The flag was given as a symbol of goodwill and will hang
next to the Australian flag given by Kris Donaldson, one of
last year's A.F.S. students.
Teens
Eric Thompson Heppner
Eric Thompson is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Terry
Thompson. Eric is currently Student Body Vice President
and will serve In that capacity next year at well. He is alio
president of the Outdoor Club and is a member of National
Honor Society, H-Club. Eric has also been involved in his
church youth group and 4-If. He also plays varsity football,
basketball and baseball.
Eric is dependable and reliable. He is a fine student who
accept! challenge and who always does his best. Eric plans
to major in engineering and is currently looking at a variety
of colleges.
Howard Leavitt Ione
lone High School's student of the month is Howard
Leavitt. son of Nancy Leavitt of Irrlgon and Rodney Leavitt
of Mananai, Virginia.
He is a junior and has a G.P.A. of 3.33.
Howard played varsity football for three years and
varsity basketball for two. In track, he competes in long
jump, triple jump and spruits.
