To the editor:
We, the committee working
on the Morrow County History .
Book, wish to extend to the
Heppner Gazette-Times staff,
our heartfelt thanks for the
fine cooperation you have
given us in this project. The
stories printed and the other
bits of information given the
readers have made our job
much easier.
To all those who took the
time to write these-stories.

To the editor:
In answer to Charlene Pa
pineau's letter to the editor in
your May 19, 1983 issue, I
would like to know if you are
offering your services to
babysit for the many children
who would otherwise attend
graduation ceremonies? Have
you ever tried to get a baby
sitter in either lone or Hep
pner on graduation night?
Should the brothers and
sisters, nieces and nephews,
children of friends of the
graduation class be kept home
from this important night?
After all, they are members of
the family and community,
too. I will agree that parents
should really try hard to keep
their children quiet and if they
are crying they should take
them out of the room, but what
about the unruly adults who
continue to whisper, laugh,
snicker, cough, etc. during the
Money grant on
To the editor:
A group of us got together
and were discussing county
roads and how they're being
maintained. We were ques
tioning the amount of money
being spent to maintain the old
Rock Creek Road behind the
old Jim Hams place and
through Don McEUigott's.
This road is used probably
25 times a year, and mostly by
the same vehicle. We think
more money should be spent
on other county roads, such as
Willow Creek, upper Rhea
Creek and Balm Fork, to
name a few.
It makes us wonder, since

speeches, awards and handing
out of diplomas? Who is going
to take them out of the room?
While we're talking distur
bances, what about all the
picture taking that goes on on
graduation night? This is dis
turbing to some but who would
dream of taking away this
privilege to record in pictures
what these students and
parents have worked so hard
for? I think the children, the
many parents, friends, and
other relatives, the picture
taking and applauding of
speeches, awards and diplo
mas are all a very important
part of graduation night. If
you don't feel you can handle
the noise or it irritates you so
much, you have a choice of
staying home.

county roads
they're spending so much time
and money to maintain said
road, when they plan on black
topping it and putting in speed
bumps. It's so widely tra
veled, you see.
If the purpose of maintain
ing county roads is to make
them more accessible to the
public, then why lock such
county roads to keep out hun
ters and fishermen, etc.?
Thanks again Don for really
