Northeast Central Oregon is
described as "well positioned
fur broad moves into new
commercial and Rectors" In a
special section of the May
issue of Oregon Business
Magazine.
This special section asses
ses the economic development
positions of Morrow. Umatil
la. Grant. Wheeler and Gil
liam counties. It is the seventh
in a series of 14 regional ,
economic profiles being pub
lished by the magarine In
cooperation with the Oregon
Department of Economic De
velopment, said a magazine
spokesperson.
The article notes, "clearly,
agriculture is responsible for
" the development of this area
and it will play a key role in Its
future. Because of the prog
ress, sericulture has made
and the trade channels it has
opened, the region is well
positioned for broad moves in
other commercial and indus
trial Rectors. Ma jor railroads,
highway and river barge sys
tems give the region easy
access to the rest of the nation
and to countries of the Pacific
Rim "
The rapid development of
circle irrigation systems, the
processed potato industry and
the development of ports in,
the region are traced by the
magazine.
"There is a sense of bigness
in Northeast Central Oregon.
It comes from the vast, un
cluttered openness of the land,
the three-mile-wide Columbia
River, but most of all it comes
from the deeds of the people
who live here deeds like the
construction of huge hydro
electric dams that throttle the
forces of one of the world's
greatest rivers, immense

The region's economy is
described in the article as
rooted in natural resource
industries, but it also points to
the considerable work being
done in the five counties to
attract new industries to the
region. It describes the char

The purpose of the economic
profile series, according to '
Oregon Business Publisher
Ijirrv Walker, is to point out
the positive things that are
happening throughout Oregon
in the area of economic devel
opment In addition to the
magazine's instate circula

magazines containing the
economic profiles are being
mailed to an additional 5.000
growth companies throughout ,
the United States as well as
those in a number of countries
in Europe and Asia.
Walker said. "Oregon has to
live down its reputation of
being anti-business and we
believe the economic profiles
to be a positive step in that
direction. It is not only impor
tant that out-of-state busines
ses know what is happening in
Oregon, but it is equally im-
poriant that Oregonians know
there are many positive things
going on throughout the state
to insure our continued growth
and prosperity."

Hall has been recommended
to the position by a vote of
delegates of the Vo-Ag teach

after having been selected by
the Vo-Ag teachers of Oregon.
This selection came at a re

He was very active in the
