Other winners for the Car

One school record and many
other fine results were
achieved by the lone thin
clads on Tuesday. April 5 in a
five-way meet at Umatilla
against Heppner, Riverside,
Stanfield and Umatilla. No
team scores were kept at the
meet.
Mike Douglas set a school
record in the 1,500 meter,
placing third in a time of
4:359 and breaking Todd
Stirrer's 1977 record of 4:36 6.
He also won the 3.000 meters
in 10.10 5 and ran on the
1 .60(-meter relay quartet with
Don Doherty. Brian Douglas
and Denny Starr who was fifth
in 4:125
Tim Patton and Craig Hams
had equally impressive days.
Patton won the high jump with
a 5'10" mark and the 100
meters in 0:11 8. He also took
second in the 200 meters
(0 25 1). and ran the anchor
leg on the winning 400 meter
relay, which included Howard

This Sunday. April 17, the
Willow Creek Country Club
men will travel to Boardman
to play an inter-club tourna
ment with the men at Wilson's
Willow Run Golf Course at
2nd Little League
A second Little League try
outs and workday will be held
Saturday. April 16 at the Little
league field in Heppner. Try
outs are scheduled to begin at
10 a m.. with workday activi
ties to start immediately after
tryouts are finished.
These second tryouts are'
designed to permit those
youngsters who were unable
to attend the first tryouts an
opportunity to participate.
Anyone that did try out on
April is encouraged to come,
but it is not mandatory that
they try out again, said a
league spokesperson.

HHS girls
The Heppner girls' track
team was edged out of first
place by a strong Joseph girls
team at the Morrow County
Invitational track meet at
Umatilla last Saturday, but
the local thinclads turned in a
strong effort by setting four
school records and two meet
records.
Joseph won me girls' com
petition with 96 points, fol
lowed by Heppner's 89, Enter
prise 51, Weston-McEwen, 45,
Wahtonka 30, Umatilla 26'4,
Condon and Wasco County 26,
Helix 22. Riverside 16. Stann-
field 16. Arlington seven and
one-half. Pilot Rock zero and
Wheeler County zero.
The HHS 400-relay team of
Tiffany Lawson. Jodi Pad
berg. Pam Orr and Stephanie
Payne ran :52.8 to set a new
school and meet record. The
old school record was :52.9set
in 1977 by Jacki Mollahan.

Lucas and Maureen Mealy and
the old meet record was 53:1
set by Pilot Rock in 1979. said

set new records
The 1.600-relay team of
Nancy Martin. Lawson. Pad
berg and Orr ran 4:26.4 to
break the mark set last year of
4:28 6. Sherry Clement threw
the shot put 33''i" to better
the record set last year by
Pam Orr of 325". The other
school record was a 2:32.6 in
the 800 meters better Mary
Kincaid's run of 2:40.3 set in
1979.
Orr bettered the meet
record of :52.2 in the 300
meter-hurdles set last year by
lyeanna Carpenter of Wahton
ka by running :49 .4 and won a
blue ribbon.
Payne led the HHS team by
adding blue ribbons in the 100
and 200 meter dashes with
times of :13.2 and :27.0 re
spectively. She was also third
in the long jump with 15-4.
Other place finishes inclu
ded Orr. second in the javelin
with 104-2: Anne Murray, fifth
in the javelin at 86-11: Pad
berg. fourth in the 1.500
meters: and Melinda Eu
banks. sixth in the shot put
with 27-P4.
The boys were led by John
Mover who was third in the
long jump with a 18-434 leap.
He pulled a groin muscle while
jumping and was unable to
compete in the rest of the
meet. Wesley Maria tt was
sixth in the shot put.
John Martin lowered his
times for the 1.500 and 3.000
meters, but just missed plac
ing. He ran 4:34.6 in the
shorter run for seventh place
overall out of the scoring and
ran 10:24 8 in he longer race.
