Doctor to open practice in May
Clare L. Koznek, D.O.
South Morrow County will
soon have another doctor as
Clare L. Koznek. Doctor of
Osteopathy, had his applica
tion approved recently by the
medical staff and board of
directors of Pioneer Memorial
Hospital, announced A.K.
"Lucky" Felt, hospital ad
ministrator. Koznek. 37. currently is in
private practice at Sandy. He
has hospital privileges at
Gresham Community Hospi
tal and at Portland Adventist
Hospital since the Gresham
hospital has no obstetric facil
ities. Raised in The Dalles area,
he attended Portland State
University and then Kansas
City College of Osteopathic
Medicine at Kansas City. Mo.
He then established two gen
eral practice offices in rural
Kansas. He has been practi
cing general and family medi
cine in Sandy since 1979.
One of the reasons Koznek
applied in Heppner was be
cause he wanted to return to
Eastern Oregon and work in a
small town. Felt said.
Felt said the doctor plans to
begin seeing patients by May
I. but it is not yet known if
Koznek's office will be im
mediately located at the
medical clinic behind the
hospital or at first at the
hospital. After Dr. Gifford
leaves. Felt said. Koznek's
office will be in the clinic
building.
Koznek and his wife. Doris,
who has worked with him in
his practice, have no children.
'Puss 6n9 Boots' to be presented
On Wednesday, and Thurs
day. April 6 and 7, at 4 p.m.,
the Heppner High School
Drama Club will present
"Puss n Boots," a delightful
dramatic rendition of the clas
sic fairy tale about the cat
wearing boots and a hat.
The play is to be held at the
Heppner Elementary School
Multipurpose Room with free
admission to everyone.
Members of the cast include
a typical fairy tale king plryed
by Bob Harris; a young and
lovely princess Virki Adams;
the perky palace maid, Ella,
played by Merry DeSpain; the
Miller's daughters, Jane and
Ella, Melissa Privett and
Annette Wilgers; their brother
Carl. Loren Hayes; and Mon
sieur Puss 'n' Boots, played by
Ken Curtis. Stage manager is
Mardel James.
The story is set in the land of
make-beli' ve.
"This play should be
enjoyed by youngsters of all
ages," said Larry Cerullo,
director, "I encourage par
ents to bring their children."
Easter Egg Hunts planned
An annual Easter Egg Hunt,
sponsored bv the local Elks .
Lodge, will be held this Satur
day. April 2. beginning at 10
a.m. in Heppner.
Pre school children will
hunt for candy eggs at the
museum and park, children in
first and second grades will
search on the courthouse lawn
and third tuid fourth grade
students will hunt at the grade
school playground.
An Easter Egg Hunt for lone
kids will be held Saturday,
April 2, beginning at 10 a.m.
Pre-school children are to
rrcvt at St. Wi'liam's Crtholio
Church. Kindergarten and
first grade students will hunt
on the east side of the park and
second and third graders on
the west side.
Kindergarten through third
grade hunters will look for
gold and silver eggs to trade in
for prizes, and money eggs.
Pre-school egg hunters will
receive prizes.
The Easter Egg Hunt is
sponsored annually by the
lone Extension Club.

Good food, dancers and live
music highlighted this year's
1983 Morrow County Fair and
Rodeo Coronation last Satur
day night.
Queen Lottie Laughlin of
Heppner was honored with her
court at a pot luck dinner at St.
Patricks Catholic Parish Hall
with over 130 people attend
ing. Rodeo Chairman Don Stroe
ber was master of rwornonies
witn the Kev. John Maas
giving the invocation.
After the meal former Hep
pner resident Jim Ackley sang
the opening song which was
dedicated to Queen Lottie and
her court.
Charly Daly, fair board
chairman, then crowned the
queen with a tierra presented
to the court by Cole's Posy
Patch, Heppner.
The next presentation came
when bank representatives
gave the court members
buckles. J.W. Pierson gave
Queen Lottie her buckle on
behalf of the Bank of Eastern
Oregon. Princess Sylvia Ladd
received her buckle from
Mary Eleanor Gilman of first
Interstate Bank. The next
buckle was given to Princess
Dawn Timms by Cindy
Greenup, representing West
ern Heritage Federal Savings
and Loan Association.
Entertainment followed
with young girls dancing.
Alecia Tarnasky and Shannon
Elliott from Heppner, along
with some Hermiston girls
made up the six-member
dance troupe.
The program continued with
Lottie introducing her court
and pennant bearers. They in
turn introduced their families
and talked about themselves.
The pennant bearers also
served as hostesses. They are:
Wendy Skillcorn, Dyann
Brosnan, Bridgett Greenup,
Stacey Kennedy and Bobbette
Angell.
Also included in the one and
one-half hour coronation was
the introduction of the fair and
rodeo committees. Charley
Daly introduced the fair
board, Roger Records fol
lowed with the naming of the
fair committee and Don
Stroeber acknowledged the
rodeo committee.
The evening concluded with
over 200 attending the corona
tion dance at the Morrow
County Fairgrounds Pavilion
featuring the Jim Ackley
Band.
