SIX The Heppner C.areUe-Times. Heppner. Oregon, Thursday, February 17, 1983 Mustangs unable to beat Weston McEwen a 2nd time By GLENN SMITH On Friday. Feb. 11, the Heppner Mustangs traveled to Athena to battle it out once more with the Weston Mc Ewen Tiger Scotts. Although Heppner had previously suc ceeded in defeating Weston McEwen, they were unable to repeat their performance and lost to the Tiger Scotts 77-68. The Mustangs looked strong in the first quarter, getting 12 - 4 lead; however, the Tiger Scotts turned right around to recapture the lead. Head Coach Brent Eggers believed that they "Lost it in the e$d of this first We got the lead but Weston turned right around and got it back." After that the Tiger Scotts pretty well dominated the game, outscoring Heppner on the score board. Eggers believed that de fense was the problem and that offensively "our ball movement was really good. I was really happy with the concentration that they had which reflected on their hand ling of the ball." He named Jeff Orr (Orr scored 27 points for the Mus tang Cagers) as an example of what results from concentra tion. Defense was the big killer of the game as Heppner succeeded in shutting out Hal san Bjorn but failed to cover the weak side. "We keyed on Halsan." Eggers explained, "but we were unable to control both him and the weak side. We tried three different defenses and none of them were able to stop the Tiger Scotts." This lack of defensive exe cution cost the Mustangs the game. Fillies lose by By HINDI MITCHELL . The Heppner Varsity girls' basketball team played Stan field at Heppner on Saturday, Feb. 12.
