their place in the league stand
ings as, they 1i'fell H
Dufur Rangers. The Cardinals
had the same troubles as the
night before but managed to
convert some fast breaks and
rebounds into points that
helped fhe birds to down the
Rangers 64 - 39.
The first half was a repeat of
the previous night but fortu
nately for the Cardinals, the
Rangers had the same prob
lem, but theirs was much
more severe.
The Cardinals were led in
scoring by Donnie Taylor who
racked up a big 10 first hal
points to aid in the 29 to 3
halftime score. As you can tell
by the score, the Cardinals did
have good defensive efforts
despite the poor offensive
showing. Tim Patton was
second in scoring with seven
points.
In the second half, the birds
got their act together, and
brought their lead to 33 points
as the score was 52 -19 at the
end of the quarter. Randy
McCabe led lone in scoring
with nine points for a 64 - 39
final score.
The Cards shot better
during this game than they did
the night before as 45 percent
of the shots they took from the
field chopped. Also 60 percent
of the free throws ripped the
nylon. The birds grabbed 48
boards compared to Dufur's
37. Craig Hams grabbed 10 of
the boards for the birds of

a thriller."
However, Eggers was not
pleased with the overall exe

very well. We wanted to slow
down the tempo purposely but
we only succeeded in upset

bail movement, no patience
and because of this we missed
an unbelievabe amount of
easy shots.
In the game, Mike Currin

two shots by Huston' are what
Coach Eggers believes won
the gnme.
Heppner lost this lead In the
second half when they got Into
foul trouble. "The lust half we
lost our concentration and that
resulted in a lot of dumb fouls.
We Justdidn't execute the
offense the way that It's sup
posed to be run."
Coach Eggers did find a
couple of things to comple
ment the Mustangs on stating
"It was a good win under the
circumstances. We handled
their press well and did a
letter job of screening them
off at the boards."
The Umatilla win was a
necessity for the Mustangs to
stay in league action and
though their hopes are slim
now, according to Eggers they
are "still hanging in there."
