    Plan summer
gardens now
n.v BOB COSTA
OSU Extension Agent
Morrow County , . ,
For fresh home grown vege-'
tables next summer, start
planning your garden now.
Planting varied adapted
to local conditions is one of the
most important factors in a
successful vegetable garden.
With proper selection of var
ieties, gardeners can grow a
wide range of garden fruits
and vegetables in central
Morrow County.
An important consideration
in variety selection is the days
to maturity. Most garden
catalogs list the days to ma
turity right afler the variety
name. For warm season crops
such as cantaloupes, squash,
tomatoes and peppers, select
varieties that mature quickly.
For lettuce, plant early in
the spring and select varieties
that are slow to bolt and that
hold well in warm weather.
If a gardener has favorite
varieties that have done well
previously, he should stick
with them for main plantings.
Gardeners can call or stop by
the extension office in Hep
pner for advice on suitable
vegetable varieties.
Select suitable varieties and
order seeds now. Vegetable
seeds can be ordered from
garden catalogs or bought at
garden supply stores.

Thursday's market.
MARKET TREND: Our market consisted of mostly cows
with a limited number of calves and yearlings being offered.
There was plenty of demand for what we did have consigned
and we could have placed more as several calf and yearling
orders went unfilled. Butcher cows were down from our
market a week ago. however, bred cows held steady with
those being purchased remaining in this area instead of being
shipped out of state.
NEXT SALE: Thursday. January 27th. A good sale is
expected.
