Catholic Churches
A Midnight Mass will be
celebrated on Christmas Eve
at St. Patricks Catholic
Church in Heppner. A prelim
inary service of Christmas
carols and hymns will begin at
11:30 p.m. Mass will follow at
12 midnight. Ron McDonald
will direct the choir and
Hope & Valby Lutheran Churches
Christmas Eve Candlelight
Communion Services will be
held at Hope and Valby Lu
theran churches. The services

A Christmas Eve Candle
light Sen-ice will be held at
United Methodist Church in
Heppner from 11 p.m. to 12
midnight. Special choir
anthems will be featured, as
well as quartets by the Junior
and senior high youth groups.
Geneva Matthews will per
form a solo, and Lori Hire will
sign "Silent Night."
Host families needed for students
The American Scandinavian
Student Exchange (ASSWE)
is seeking local families to
serve as hosts for IS Scandi
navian and German high
school students who are part
of the ASSE exchange visitor
program, according to Susan

The Morrow County sher
iff's office at the Morrow
County Courthouse in Heppner
handled the following calls,
cases and reports during the
past week:
On December 17, a Board
man ambulance responded to
a request at Interstate 84 and
Highway 730. An unknown
woman was reportedly
injured.
Also on December 17, Mike
Cahill, chief of the Irrigon ,
Police Department reported
that Michael Brown, 29, of
Irrigon, had been discovered
shot to death at Brown's Truck
Stop in Irrigon. Brown was
reportedly married and had
two children. Later that same
day, the joint efforts of the
Irrigon Police Department,
the Oregon State Police, the
Umatilla Police Department
and the Morrow County Sher
iff's Department led to the
arrest of Thomas Winston
Westmoreland III, 20, of
Umatilla in connection with a
robbery at Brown's Truck
Stop and the murder of service
station attendant Michael
Brown.
In another December 17
incident, Mike Cahill, chief of
the Irrigon Police Depart
ment, the Oregon State Police,
the Umatilla Police Depart
ment and the Morrow County
Sheriff's Department led to
the arrest of Thomas Winston
Westmoreland III. 20, or
Umatilla in connection with a
robbery at Brown's Truck
Stop and the murder of service
station attendant Michael
Brown.
In another December 17
incident, a Boardman ambu
lance transported an unknown
woman from U & I Inc.,
Boardman. to the North Mor
row Medical Clinic in Board
man. She reportedly suffered
head injuries.

Co. Wheat League contributes
to Christmas basket project
This year the Heppner
Neighborhood Center added
an article grown "close to
home" in Christmas baskets
that will be distributed to
needy families in the area.
The product, Krusteaz pan
cake mix. made partly of soft
white wheat, was donated by
the Oregon Wheat League of
Morrow County and Continen
tal Mills of Kent. Wash., said
Wheat League member Alice
Harper of Eight Mile.
The idea of helping the
Neighborhood Center with a
wheat product has been a goal
of County Wheat League

Works Department has re
leased the following Work Re
port for the weeks ending
December 11 and 18:
During the past two weeks
roads ditched-bladed were:
Iwer Sandhollow, Melville,
Cecil, Dave Rietmann, Big
Butter Creek, lone Boardman,
No. 586. Baker E.W.. Ella,
Valby. Carlson, Baseline,
Deadman Hill, lone-Gooseberry
and E.W. Ella roads.
Roads bladed and graveled
were: Zinter. Halvorsen to
Eight Mile. Bert Peck, Bren
ner Canyon. Smith-McNabb
West. French. Barlow Can
yon. Bergstrom-Carlson,
Iena-Hisler and Tony Vey
roads.
Signs w ere replaced on Ful
ler Canyon Road and repaired
on Social Ridge.
A new culvert was installed
on Valby Road and culvert
extension on the Oscar Peter
son Road.
Culverts were cleaned and
weeds burned on these roads:
B. Bergstrom. N.S. Morgan,
Rugg Jordan, Baker, Eubanks
and most of the roads that
were bladed.
A wash out was filled in on
the Barlow Canyon Road, and
a tree was removed from the
road on Upper Rhea Creek.
In the north end of Morrow
County, cold mix patching was
done on Kunze Road, Peters
Road. Patterson Junction,
Pole Line. Homestead, Fron
tage. Patterson Ferry and the
Boardman Irrigon Road.

son. Jeffery Richard, was
born to John and Shari Schil
ler of Echo on December 2 at
St. Mary Community Hospital
at Walla Walla. Wash. He
weighed 8 lbs.. 14 oz.
Grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Schiller of Echo,
Mr. and Mrs. Vascoe Thomas
of Walla Walla and Dr. and
Mrs. Robert McKenzie of
Pendleton.
