Not laughing
To the editor:
I always read Justine
Weatherford's column be
cause it is usually good for a
laugh. I read her column last
week and I am not laughing. I
also attended the Heppner
High School production of the
play, "Gift of Murder!", very
professionally directed by Mr.
Larry Cerullo. I feel that the
acid review that Justine chose
to bestow on the readers of the
Gazette-Times was uncalled
for. Obviously, her mother
never taught her that if you
can't say something helpful,
"Shut Up!"
I think that the cast did a
marvelous job. Let's face it,
Justine, movie and stage stars
lead sophisticated, rather
decadent lives from time to
time. They smoke, they drink,
etc. If you were so incensed,
why didnt you leave?
Cigarettes were lit while in
the hands and were out before
they even got to the mouths of
the cast. With the exception of
I applaud
To the editor:
I attended the recent Hep
pner High School play "A Gift
of Murder!" Presenting the
play required long hours of
work by many people. Mr.
Cerullo and his group spent
evenings and weekends in
preparation. The cast was
composed entirely of students
and they were well prepared.

prepare
breakfast
By CARRI BROWNFIELD
At the last meeting of the
Maker-Bakers 4-H Club,
members made their own
breakfast. They made cinna
mon toast and two kinds of
cocoa ; instant and cooked.
The girls talked about which
kind of cocoa they liked the
best. Most liked the cooked
better.
The club is off to a good
start.
The next meeting will be
Saturday. Dec. 18, from 11

the lead, I saw no actual
smoking (No word pun inten
ded) by the cast and I am so
convinced at Miss Bown's
ability to portray her charac
ter, that it could have been
illusion. I do not smoke cigar
ettes, or allow smoking in my
home. I do feel that cancer can
happen as a result of smoking.
However, I am here to tell you
that hateful journalism does
its share of eating away also
and Justine's nasty review
absolutely killed me. Those
kids, under Cerullo's direc
tion, did a good job of acting.
Those cigarettes were so full
of holes, it's a wonder they did
not disintegrate in the actors'
hands! Their director saw to
that so no smoke could be
inhaled.
Take heart, though Justine.
There's a play just for you.
It'll be called "Puss 'n Boots."
Watch for it!

The set looked terrific and I
enjoyed the play. I know first
hand that those involved in
producing the play enjoyed
the experience.
Thank you Mr. Cerullo and
thank you students. I applaud
you all.

GIFT-GIVING
How did gift-giving come to
be associated with the Christ
mas holiday? The tradition
probably goes all the way back
to the story of the three Magi, or
wise men, who brought gifts of
gold, frankincense and myrrh
when they came to Bethlehem to
do honor to the newly-born
Christ.
