Mustangs run over Wasco Co., 21-0
Ye Olde Head Shed
By GLENN SMITH
Friday night, Oct. 9, the
Heppner Mustangs hosted the
Wasco Co. Redsides in a bout
that resulted in a 21 - 0 defeat
for the Redsides.
; In the first quarter, things
started slowly but soon picked
up as the Mustang offense
drove the ball down the field
and scored on a two-yard
drive by Sid Kennedy.
In the second quarter, Jeff
Orr was the one to score and
by halftime the score was 14 -0.
In third quarter action. Jeff
Orr did it again to bring the
score to 21 - 0.
Neither team scored in the
fourth and final quarter, leav
ing the Mustangs victorious.
Les Payne, coach for the
Mustangs, commented, "Of
fensively, we were better. It
controlled their defense. If
it had not been for mental
mistakes, resulting in penal
ties. weVould have scored
much more." He went on to
say "Defense w as the primary
force in the game. They con
tained Wasco Co. and kept
them from scoring. Jeff Orr
and Sid Kennedy both had
good games offensively, while
defensively, Tom Huston
stood out with his intercep
tions and strong defensive
plays."
Although the Mustangs won.
it was a costly victory, for the
Mustangs suffered damaging
injuries to some key players.
Mark Way injured his throat
and was taken to the hospital,
while Sid Kennedy injured his
knee and will be out of play
indefinitely.
The Mustangs will meet
Lyle. Wash., in Heppner on
Friday, Oct. 16, at 8 p.m. in the
Mustangs' homecoming
game.
