Oregon Mime Theatre Sept. 9
"Mime is an art form that
performs itself in silence, and
a lot of its communicative
powers lie in the eyes. Mime is
neither theater nor dance,"
says Fransisco Reynder,
founder -director of the Oregon
Mime Theater here for a solo
performance at 8 p.m. on
Thursday, September 8 in the
Heppner High School cafe
torium. Mr, Reynders, nation
ally recognized as one of the
preeminent mime artists in
the United States, has per
formed for several years in
France, Holland, Belgium and
England before coming here,
to give solo performances at
over 450 colleges and univer
sities in the U.S. and Canada.
He is currently associated
with Lewis and Clark College.
Because the mime artist
establishes communication
through the eyes and body,
most mimes use a white face.
"I use it, too, with black eyes
and a black mouth," says
Reynders. "It's like a piece of
paper. Easy to read. The
white takes away my indiv
iduality. My costume Is black
and white, too - and this
results in a kind of negative
image on stage. In that image,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.D.

Grande, Baker, Keating as

an audience can easily reflect
a bit of himself In the mime,"
Reynders says that com
munication is possible be
tween a mime and with people
of all ages. "Mime Is a kind of
internation nonverbal
language - and a lot of its
success is based on the fact
that every human being has
been a child once and can
relate to nonverbal communi
cation. Before you learn any
language as a child, you're a

There were 35 buyers and 69 consignors represented at
Thursday's market.
MARKET TREND: The market was active on all classes
with prices strong due to the large demand. Steers were up to
$3 and $4 higher with heifers $2 stronger. Cows were still off
with dressed meat prices down also. We had plenty of buyers
on hand and the good kind of cattle to send home with them.
NEXT SALE : Thursday, September 2nd. Several large lots
of good feeder cattle are consigned for this sale including one
300 head consignment, a few 150 head consignments, and
several smaller lots. There is still time to get your cattle
consigned and this should be a good market while the
demand is still strong.
Thank you,
