Family Fun Night a 'must'
One of the big attractions at
the Morrow County Fair &
Rodeo has to be the Family
Fun Night.
This year's fun night will
feature a Roast Beef Dinner
starting at 6:30 p.m., to be
followed with entertainment
by a "sensational" duo from
Salem.
Stoddard & Cole will per
form the music which has
delighted audiences at the
Jackson County, N.W. Wash
ington, S.W. Washington and
Oregon State Fairs and other
events for the past two years.
Also on hand at the Family
Fun Night will be a "big
robust fellow" named Quick
Draw Charlie.
A cartoonist who can draw a
passer-by in 6 minutes, the
6-foot-3. 285 pound Charlie is a
delight to young folks and old
alike with his quick wit and
charm and interesting
sketches.
These good events and a
delicious roast beef dinner
make the fun night a "must"
on all fair-goers lists.
Big increase in
4-H livestock
expected at Fair
4-H Livestock at Morrow
County Fair is expected to be
up over 6t percent this year.
bas-d on the number of mar
ket animals weighed in. The
biggest increase will be in the
sheep division, with beef and
swine up slightly.
This big increase is contin
uine the trend of the past
several years where exhibits
increased eacTTyrar. Lambs
and hoes offer the biggest
chance for change as they are
the lowest cost to get started
in SJeers are a big investment
for 4-H members when first
purchased and during the
feeding stages.
Twenty-two new pens are
being built this summer to
provide enough pens. The 1981
fair utilized all the pens avail
able for hogs and sheep, with
only a few unused tie spots for
beef. The new pens will be one
of the major projects to be
finished during the fair work
day on August 15.
Gov. Atieyh
to visit
County Fair
By KOf.KK KfcCOKD.S
Governor Victor Atieyh will
visit the Morrow County Fair
on Tuesday. August 24.
The governor will attend the
Family Fun-Nite barbecue,
where he will speak to the
crowd.
Democratic candidate for
governor. Ted Kulongoski, has
been invited to attend but it is
unknown at this time whether
he will be at the fair.
The Barbecue starts at 6:30
- tickets are now available at
the fair office and the exten
sion office.
New items at snack shack
Nadine Bailey, chairperson
for the 4-H Snack Shack, says
she'll be serving the popular
foods such as burgers and
fries, but that some new items
will be added to the menu this
year to make it even more
attractive to busy people at
fair.
There'll be hot dogs, fries
and burgers, but new this year
will be chicken strips, donuts,
and an extra good breakfast
for all those out early enough
to enjoy a "country break
fast" at a bargain price. If the
full country breakfast of hot
cakes, bacon, hash browns,
and eggs aren't what you
fancy between 7:00 and 9:00
a m. there will be sweet rolls
and other lighter items avail
able, too. She promises to
have low calorie soft drinks as
well as the regular.
"I'm ready to go right now,"
declares the energetic grand
mother, "but we still need
help for almost every shift
during fair. If we can't find
volunteers to assist. I'm sorry
but there may be times when
the Snack Shack will have to
lock to door!"
Nadine has always been
interested in 4-H, formerly in
Roseburg, and now in Morrow
County. "We always got be
hind the kids and did whatever
work was needed to help make
their programs successful.
The Snack Shac k proceeds do
a lot of good for the 4 H ers ...
scholarships, other things."
she said "I'm sure we'll get
all the help we need when
people realize that help is still
needed "
The griddles will be hot in
the 4 H Snack Shack starting
Sunday. Aug 22, for the Open
CIjss Horse Show, on through
Wednesday evening. August
25th when the last animals
goes across the auction block.
