See 4-H Monday
Exhibits selected at county
fair for state fair competition
must be in Salem Tuesday!
That's the pood news .. and the
bad news.
Good news is that all 4-H
home ec. creative arts,
natural sciences, etc. can be
judged on Monday, and the
fashion revue is Monday even
ing But the bad news is that
after several exhibits from
each division are packed and
sent to State Fair, many
people are disappointed when
they visit the 4-H Annex later
in the week because they
cannot see all the exhibits.
Please visit the 4 H Annex
Monday ... even though jud
ging will be underway. We are
proud of the high quality of the
exhibits ... it is the high
quality that qualifies them for
the state event, but they must
he received in Salem Tuesday
for judging there.
The days to enjoy member
participation events and con
tests such as food preparation
and presentations are Tues
day and Wednesday. You'll
marvel at the culinary skills of
the young people as they
prepare everything from
cookies to full meals. You 11
also be impressed by the
knowledge, charm and poise
of those who present compli
cated demonstrations or pre
sentations on a wide variety of
topics.
They love an audience!
Samples of goodies are always

Build a better burger
What's the favorite Ameri
can food? You guessed it ...
the good old "burger" with ... !
The Cowbelles want every 4-H
boy and girl to know how to
prepare this traditional favor
ite for themselves ... and add
other goodies to make it more
nutritious and eye appealing
as well. Encouragement to
participate in the special con
test and learn all about it is
offered by a whopping $10
cash award to the winner in
each of three age divisions, as
well as a special gift award to
each participant. If that isn't
enough to catch the interest of
the 4-H'ers, the Cowbelles also

One of the newest additions lo the foirgrounds this yoor it an

Tractor driving
By JOHN P. NOKDIIKIM
County Ext. Agent
This will be the third year
for the 411 and FFA Tractor
Driving Contest. It is an inter
esting and exciting event for
spectators. This year the con
test will be held August 24 at 1
p.m. in the rodeo arena. The
contest is open to both 4 H and
ground beef for each to use in
the burger. The Build a Better
Burger was the idea of the
Morrow Cowbelles, but now is
showing up at other county
fairs and creating lots of fun
and excitement for contest
ants there. Claudia Hughes,
Cow belle in charge of the
contest, invites all the 4 H'ers
to get in the act! She also
stresses the importance of
Mom, Dad, and grandparents
being on hand to marvel at the
variety, size, and creativity of
the kids burgers. They may
even get to sample the
goodies! Time and place ... the
