Three CETA youths assisting
Neighborhood Center ' clients

- The Neighborhood Center
has been fortunate to have
three CETA school youths to
help with handy-helper jobs
and Center upkeep or any aid
they can do under guidelines
allowed by the Dept. of Labor,
Employed are Jodi Matiison,
Greg Orr and Bill Malon. They
have helped with window?
light- housekeeping such as
vacuuming for the elderly or
handicapped who are unable
to do it themselves. Also many
of the clients have needed
yard work, such as mowing

The lone Yard of the Month
award has been presented to
Ione's oldest citizen. Ida Gra
bill. Her old fashioned home,
located at Third and Spring
streets, has a traditional front
porch, accented with flowers ,
in bloom throughout the year,
said an lone Garden Club
spokesperson.
Mrs. Grabill 's yard and
parking area are neat, clean
and colorful, with yellow snap
dragons and pink, purple and
white petunias, coral bells and
four-o'clocks.
Mrs. Graybill is 100 years
old and has lived at her
present residence for 65 years.
Her yard is maintained by
her son. Gene, and her son-in-law,
Elmer Ellis.

of Jodi's duties.
The next visit of the Adult
and Family Services Counsel
or, Janet Phillips, will be
August 18, from 9 a.m. to 12
noon. Food stamp applications
are available at the Center
during the week as a conven
ience for those needing appli
cations to bring in for proces
sing to the counselor.
The Social Security repre-'
sentative will be at the Center
Friday morning Aug. 13 from
10 a m, to 12 noon. No appoint
ment is necessary.
The Thursday Socials
Ladies celebrated with a pot
luck luncheon last Thursday,
July 29 for birthdays for June.
July and August.
Those attending enjoyed
lunch with birthday cakes
later in the afternoon.
A II S.. GED classes have
been completed until fall
school starts. Schedules will
be available when classes are
resumed.
A potluck picnic for Amer
ican Legion and Auxiliary
members of Post No. 87 will be
held Saturday, August 7, 7
p.m., at the Arnie Hedman
widence, 275 Church St.,
Heppner, Beverages will be
furnished, said Rita Hedman.
Plans will he made for the
post's annual fair and rodeo
float, she said,

August 10 - The Oregon Filbert Commission will meet;
time and place are yet to be announced.
August 10 -The Oregon Ryegrass Commission meeting will
be held at 8 p.m. at the armory in Albany.
August 11 - The Oregon Table Wine Research Advisory
Board will meet in room 105 of the Oregon Department of
Agriculture in Salem at 10 a.m.
August 12 A meeting of PARC (Pesticide Analytical and
Response Center) is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in room 44 of the
Oregon Department of Agriculture in Salem.
