The Oregon Extension
Homemakers Council will for
mally observe its 50th anni
versary during the week and
three Morrow Co. residents

lege is sponsored by the coun
cil and the OSU Extension
Service. The council repre
sents people who participate
in the Extension study group
program throughout Oregon.
Special recognition will be
given to 50-year members of
Extension homemakers at the
mini-college banquet Thurs
day night. Dorris Graves and
Mildred Wright of Heppner
wilt he honored for 50 vears of
participation as will Edna
Mulkins of Irrigon. said the
spokesperson.
In addition to working with
the Extension Service to
strengthen educational pro
grams, the council is concern
ed also with strengthened
leadership development and
community service activities
among Extension homemak
ers. the spokesperson said.

Nutrition letters still offered
Getting basic nutrition in
formation into the hands of
pregnant women can mean
improved eating habits which
are good for both baby and
mother, reports Margaret
Bakke. Oregon State Univer
sity Extension nutritionist.
That's the finding of a study
done of the first 2.400 persons
to receive a series of six
letters called "Nutrition and
Pregnancy" from the OSU
Extension Service. The letters
were first sent in July, 1980.
Since then, nearly 5.000 have
been mailed from Extension
county offices, said and Ex
tension spokesperson.
"Pregnancy, a time when
women are thinking of them
selves and another person, is a
good time to present women
with basic nutrition informa
tion." Bakke notes, "because
there is real motivation to
take positive action.

The Heppner Hotel building,

nominated to the National.
Register of Historic Places by
the Oregon State Advisory
Committee on Historic Pre
servation, announced Eliza
beth Potter, state preservat
ion specialist.
Potter said the hotel was
reviewed and approved for
hotel architecture during the
early years of the automobile
age. The hotel, she said, is an
example of a series of hotels in
Heppner that were destroyed
by either fire or flood.

In about two months, the
production work on the hotel's
nomination will be finished
and sent to Washington D C.
for review. The final decision
on whether the hotel will be
listed on the Register will be
made by the keeper of the
Register, within 45 days of
receipt. Potter said.
