Mr, and Mrs. Bob Lovgren
were hosts to the Amlcitia
Club and at a regular yearly
meeting at their mountain
cabin on Saturday evening.
There are about 50 people
present. Pinochle was played
with prizes awarded to the
following: men's high, Bob
Lovgren; men's second high,
Cary Munkers; women's high,
Hilda Yocom; second high;
Janice Cuisforth; women's
low, Katie Mc Roberts; and
men's low, Eldon Pad berg.
Door prizes were won by Bill
Padberg and Martha Mun
kers. The evening was also
marked by the wedding anni
versary of Mr. and Mrs. Gary
Munkers, and a lovely deco
rated cake and punch and
coffee were served commem
orating the oecassion.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Pal
mer entertained at their home
on Sunday with a barbecue.
Present were Mr. and Mrs.
Jeff Marshall of Pendleton;
Mr. and Mrs. Bud Marshall of
Heppner; Mona Lisa Pelesky
and son who are visiting in
Heppner until joining Mr.
Pelesky at Fiarbanks, Alaska
where he is stationed with the
airforce; Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Majeske and the hosts, Mr.
and Mrs. Palmer. A fun day
was enjoyed by all.
Linda Jones accompanied
her father, Charles Starks and
sister, Susan Johnston to Sal
em on Friday where they
attended a funeral of Mr.
Stai-k's niece. They returned
on Saturday.
Jeanette Hughes and
Martha Ward of Juneau, Ala
ska are visiting their parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Glover Peck for
several weeks. The group
spent tow days last week at
the Peck's mountain cabin.
Mr. and Mrs. C,C. Jones
motored to Rainier where they
attended the grange insurance
agent's session at the state
grange assembly. Motoring
down as delegates for Lexing
ton grange were Mr. and Mrs.
O.W. Cusforth. They returned
home on Saturday.
Marie Yocom and her
fiance, Lai and Jones, enter
tained on Sunday with a din
ner honoring her mother, Hil
da, on her birthday. Besides
the honoree and husband, Joe,
they were joined by Millie
Yocom and Debbie Jones and
daughters of Milton Freewat
er. Venice Hendrickson spent
the weekend at her home in
Lexington. Mrs. Hendrickson
works in Pendleton.
Holly Rcbekah Lodge met
on Thursday evening for a
regular meeting. Plans were
made for the summer months
of vacation. Plans were also
discussed for an initiation to
be held in September for the
elected candidates, Kathy Tel- '
lechea and Annetta Padberg.
Due to the absence of Mrs.
Padberg, Mrs. Tellechea was
welcomed as a new member
and Invited to attend the Three
Links Club meetings for the
summer months. Refresh
ments were served In the
ed of the flea market to be held
Fridny, June 25, at the hall.
Sandwiches, coffee and home
made pie will also be served at
the flea market. Money made
from the flea market is needed
to support the Rebekah Hall so
that It can continue to be used
as a community center.
The Three Links Club met at
the Cecil Jones home on Mon
day with a potluck dinner
served at noon to make furth
er plans for the flea market.
Following the business meet
ing visiting was enjoyed with
the following winning door
prizes: Martha Ward, Ruth
Robinson, Leila Palmer, and
Kathy Tellechea. Those pre
sent for the day were Ruth
Robinson, Dorothy Burcham,
Kathy Tellechea, Leila Pal
mer, Annetta Padberg, Josie
Peck, Virginia Peck, Hilda
Yocom and the hostess, Del
pha Jones.
Mr. and Mrs. Pillip Mar
quardt are presently living at
the Bill B. Marquardt home
but will soon be moving to
Heppner to make their home.
Leila Messenger Is confined
to her home from an Injury to
one of her legs In a fall.
Betty Marquardt and
daughter, Jana, were visitors
at Albany of another daughte
er and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Clay Grace. They motored
down with Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Miller of Heppner.
Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Jones
attended the wedding recep
tion in Pendleton on Saturday
evening of Dennis Peck and
Debbie Shade. The young
couple were married Saturday
in Pendleton and the reception
was at the VFW Hall there.
Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Peck had
as their house guests a
daughter, Mrs. Teresa Thur
mond and her son, Ryan, of
Pilot Rock and Hailey Olsen of
Pendleton. Mrs. Thurmond Is
recuperating from a serious
knee Injury and underwent
surgery at a Pendleton hospi
tal last week. She will be
confined to her home for some
time recuperating.
Delbert Vinson, who has
been a patient at the Veteran's
hospital in Walla Walla, Wash,
is at his home in Lexington.
Mrs. Vinson spent some time
in Walla Walla to be near her
husband.
Mr. and Mrs. L.E. Ruhl
have as their guests, their
granddaughters, Cindi, Lori
and Traci Ruhl, daughters of
Mr. and Mrs. Skip Ruhl of
Hermiston.
Diane Rea of Hermiston is
employed at the home of her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Kenneth Palmer, this sum
mer. Brent and Sherra Martin,
children of Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Martin of Kent, Wash., have
been visiting their grandpar
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mar
tin. Sherra will go to Condon
this week where she will be
employed at the Caseburg
home and Brent will return
dining room. All were remind- home.

Heppner cowgirl leads all-around standings Six county students

Tara Mahoney, 17 of Hep
pner, will compete in five
events at the Oregon High
School Finals Rodeo, to be
held at Redmond at the end of
this month.
Mios Mahoney is entered In
barrel racing, pole bending,
goat tying, cow cutting and
team roping. She is also a
hazer for several steer wrest
. lers.
Last year Mahoney was
Oregon's all-around champion
and was rookie of the year in
1980. She is again leading the
girl's all-around standings,
and is first in breakaway
roping.
Three other Heppner con
testants are leading their
events going into the state
finals.
If Rice, last year's nation
al bareback champion, is first
in that event and also is
entered in saddle bronc; Earl
Hammond is first in saddle
bronc and is also entered In
bareback; Mike Currin is first
in steer wrestling and also is
entered in calf roping and
team roping.
Others from Heppner who
have qualified are Cliff
Dougherty, calf roping, team
roping and steer wrestling;
Don Kindsfathcr, steer wrest
ling, calf roping
and team roping; Pat
Schwartz, . calf roping;
Steve Currin, calf roping;
Trisha Mahoney, breakaway
roping, barrel racing, goat
tying, cow cutting and team
roping; and Marty Britt, steer
wrestling.

Six Morrow County students
made the spring term honor
roll at Oregon State Univer
sity it was recently announced
by OSU.
A total of 507 students earn
ed straight A's (4.0). Another
1,372 earned a B plus (3.5) or
better to make the listing. To
be on the honor roll, students
must carry at least 12 graded
hours of course work.
Heppner students named to
the honor roll included Scott
McEwen, a science major
4.0; Joseph McDonald, a busi
ness major 3.5 or better; and
Marie VanSchoiack, also a
business major 3.5 or better,
Boardman students named
to the honor roll with a 3.5 or
better were Vicki Daniels, an
education major and Judith
Danies, an engineering major,
Douglas Bristow, a liberal
arts major from lone, also
made the honor roll with a 3.5
or better. ....
