This week. 44 eighth graders
are enjoying a wonderful
change in their school routine
Twenty-one youngsters from
Ileppner Klemenlary School
are spending the week in the
Centennial District in the
homes of parents of eighth
graders of the Lynch Terrace
Middle School between Port
land arid (,resham while 23
students from that school are
learning about Morrow
County. This spring exchange
has been arranged by the two
schools for several years and
is directed by Dave Olcott of
Lynch Terrace who is remem
bered here as a former leader
of the Y C C. Camps up al
Tupficr.

yesterday they visited OMSI
where they viewed the Planet
arium Show "Universe in
Motion" and looked over the
Washington Park Zoo; today,
a tour of Old Town in Portland
and a gfod visit at the Oregon
Historical Society are schedul
ed and tomorrow they will see
Ihe Port of Portland, termi
nals six and four, and the ship
repair yard: then from 7:30 to
9Wp m. they will be guests at
a dance at Ihe host school.

plans plant sale

of Helen Martin to separate

theclub's annual plant sale set

For some time members
have been preparing cuttings
from their houseplants and the
excess plants from their yards,
and gardens to be sold as a
service to the community and
to raise funds for sending
delegates to the convention of
the Oregon State Federation
of (larden Clubs. The conven
tion will be held in Medford
this year. June 13-16. Pie and
coffee will also be sold at the
plant sale. Members will be
glad to answer questions
regarding landscaping and
plant horticulture in this area,
said a club spokesperson,
President Helen Martin pre
sided over the monthly busi
ness meeting after lunch,
reporting for the area beauti
fication committee, a success
ful city cleanup campaign

tors went out to Sand Hollow
for a tour of dryland and
irrigated wheat ranches on
Monday and enjoyed a dinner
put on by the Wheat League.
Tuesday they rode to Hard
man to visit that ghost town
and then on to Rock Creek into
the timber and to a wiener
roast at Anson Wright Park.
Wednesday they were taken to
the Butter Creek area to tour
hay. sheep and cattle opera
tions (arranged by the Cattle
men's Association) and they
enjoyed a dinner (put on by
the CowBelles.)
Today the students toured
the Kinzua Mill, visited the
County Museum and the little
one-room schoolhouse and
learned some of Morrow
County's history. Tomorrow's
big event will be the seventh
and eighth grade dance at the
school's multipurpose room
from 7:30 to 10 p.m. On
Saturday the visitors need to
arrive at the school by 7:45
a.m. to begin their return
home. They will carry sack
lunches and will travel out
the Bombing Range Road and
will have a drive-by tour of
some of the developments in
the north end of the county,
such as corporate farms,
irrigation projects and food
processing plants, and see the
city of Boardman and the
coal-fired plant before they
continue west, expecting to be
home by about 6:30 p.m. when
the Heppner students will
board their bus for their
evening trip back here.

The April Yard-of-the-Month
honor was awarded to
Geneva Palmer for the lovely
grounds around her farm and
home, the spokesperson re
ported. Officers elected to serve for
the year that begins July 1 are
President Helen Martin. Vice
president Joyce Buchanan,
Secretary Loree Hubbard, and
Treasurer Pat Pettyjohn.
In other business:
- Nine members indicated
their intentions to attend the
Blue Mt. District No. 10 spring
meeting at Prairie City on
April 23.
- In May. members will
meet at the home of Delta
Huber to begin a tour to view
outstanding gardens of the
area.
- A get well card was signed
for Carol McKaig. former
member, who recently under
went surgery.
- Jean Nelson greeted the
club by letter from New
Caledonia where she and her
husband are vacationing.
- Birthday cake honoring
Edith Nichoson and Delta
Huber was served by Helen
Martin.
A guest. Alice Newel of San
Francisco. Calif ., daughter of
Edith Nichoson also attended
the meeting.

There are still Heats avail
able for the spring tour to
Porlland on May 13. The tour
group will vigil the Old Town
district of Portland, with
guides to point out the
historical sites. Time will also
be allowed for each to pursue
personal interests during the
afternoon. Men as well as
women are invited to join the
tour for an inside look at one of
the more interesting sections
of Portland. While plans
include a guided walking tour,
special arrangements may be
made if there are those
wishing to attend who could
