Letters To
Thank you,
To the editor:
We are writing this letter to
express our appreciation to
the voters of Umatilla and
Morrow counties for the
continued support of the
college. The margin of victory
was very narrow and we
realize that we owe our
successful budget election to
the many volunteers who
helped tell our story to the
voters. Many residents of the
college district donated both
time and money to assist in
the election campaign. With
out their help we would not
have been successful in pas
sing the college levy.
We are especially apprecia
tive of the positive vote in
Morrow County. We realize
that due to the distance
involved. Morrow County resi
dents are not able to take
advantage of the many oppor
tunities the college provides.
We can assure you that the
college will make every effort
to provide classes locally
when it is economically feas
ible to do so.
The close vote on the college
budget and the defeat of other
area budgets is a clear
indication that voters expect
education, and other local
taxing districts, to reduce

expenditures wherever pos
sible during ' these difficult
economic times. Approval of
the college budget does not
alter the fact that the college,
like other taxing districts,
needs to review all budget
items and make an effort to
reduce existing costs where
ever possible.
The college understands the
message the voters gave us on
March 30 and we are starting
now to again review the entire
budget to see if some addition
al savings can be realized in
the budget that has already
received voter approval for
1982-83. We already know that
we must reduce expenditures
by another $23,515 to match
the most recent reduction in
state funding.
Again, we want to thank the
Morrow County residents for
their show of support.
Sincerely yours,
