Heppner to face Enterprise
in region tournament
The Heppner Mustangs will
face Enterprise, the number
two team from the Wapiti
league, in first round action of
the Region 4 Basketball Tour
nament, underway this week
end in Pendleton.
The Mustangs earned the
spot in the tournament by
winning one of two games in
the district playoffs last week.
The Mustangs beat Wasco
County last Friday, 63- 61, but
PNB plans to raise
Pacific Northwest Bell re
cently asked Oregon Public
Utility Commissioner John
Lobdell for permission to raise
some rates.
There would be no increase
in rates for PNB's basic
economy monthly service for
residence customers. But for
those using one party pre
'mium service, the increase
would be $2 a month. There
would also be increases in the
charges for business monthly
service.
There would be no increase
in the monthly rate for a basic
rotary phone. Increased rates
of 25 cents to 60 cents have
been proposed for other tele
phone sets.

Enterprise has a record of
16-4 and is rated 10th in the
state. "They like to fast
break." said Heppner Coach
Dale Holland, "and they use a
zone defense."
Heppner still has a chance
to go on to the state tourna
ment, if it wins both of its
games in the regional.
Also in the regional contest
rates
ness monthly service, leased

optional services would be

The Heppner Mustangs
managed a second place finish
in the district 7A playoffs last
weekend in Pendleton and
brought home two other
awards as well.
On Friday the Mustangs
beat Wasco Co. by a slim 63-61
margin, and Saturday lost to
Pilot Rock 59-47, to come away
with second place.
The Heppner cheerleaders
did a Rood job at the
tournament, taking a first
place trophy home in their
competition.
And the Heppner fans have
reason to be proud, as the
Mustangs won first place in
the sportsmanship division. "I
want to congradulate the fans
and the team for that award,"
said Head Coach Dale Hol
land. "It reflects well on our
community and everyone,
really."
Heppner vs. Wasco
Heppner lead the entire
game, at times by as much as
eight points.
But Wasco made a run at the
Mustangs in the second half
and pulled to within two
points, before the Mustangs
held on for the 63-61 win.
Outstanding player of the
game would have to be
Dorrian Forrar who put on an
outstanding offensive per
formance, scoring a career
high 40 points.
Forrar made 16 of 23 shots
from the floor for a hot 70
percent shooting percentage,
and scored eight of 13 from the
foul line for a 61 percent
average.
'That's one of the best
shooting nights I've ever
seen." commented Holland.
He said Doug Holland also
played well dishing out nine

"We played one of our better
games, but the Wasco coach
said they played one of their
best of the year," Holland
said.

Heppner vs. Pilot Rock
"Probably the biggest fac
tor (in the 59-47 loss) was our
21 turnovers," Heppner Coach
Dale Holland said.
The Mustangs got behind
17-8 at the end of the first
quarter and it was catch-up
ball from then on.
"Our game plan was to
control the ball, but we got
behind and weren't able to do
that." The Pilot Rock press
also bothered the Mustangs
said Holland.
Pilot Rock was also able to
shut down the Mustangs
high-scoring forward, Dorrian
Forrar, holding him to only 13
shots for 11 points.
"They overplayed them,"
said Holland.
Doug Holland played a good
game, Holland said, and so did
John Murray and Robert Bier.
(Bier is back in action after
being sidelined for several
games with a knee injury).
Heppner plays Enterprise
this week in the first round of
regional playoff action. It is
possible the Mustangs could
face Pilot Rock again some
time in the playoffs.
"I feel confident we can beat
them." Holland said of the
only team to beat the Mus
tangs this year. "We're happy
to be in the regional tourna
ment, and we are going to do
the best we can."
