Mustangs
The Heppner Mustangs
dominated the entire game
against Umatilla last Friday
night, going on to post an 83 -58
victory over the host
Vikings.
"We dominated the boards
and we ran our fast break. We
ran very well," said Heppner
Head Coach Dale Holland.
Holland said Heppner play
ers Dorian Forrar, Robert
Bier and Doug Holland all did
a good job in the victory, and
that Don Lott did a good job on
the boards.
Forrar scored 22 points in
the contest, and pulled down
10 rebounds. Bier scored 14
and corralled 14 rebounds for
his part in the game. Holland
scored 13 points and pulled in
four rebounds, while Lott
came up with 10 boards.
The victory placed the
Mustangs record at 11 wins
and no losses for the season.
They are also undefeated in
league play.

The Heppner girls' basket
ball team was downed by
Wahtonka Saturday night in
overtime. 44 - 42.
Mary Kincaid was top
scorer for the Fillies with 18
points. Anne Murray had 12,
Sherri McMinn scored six and

The lone Cardinal girls were
trounced by the Dufur Ran
gers 28 - 65 on Saturday night,
January 30.
The Rangers jumped out to
a 3 - 11 lead in the first
quarter. The Cardinals got
into early foul trouble as the
Rangers scored seven of their
points on free throws.

On Tuesday, January 26. the
Cardinal girls were defeated
by the Riverside Pirates. 34 -41.
The Pirates jumped out to a
7 - 13 lead as Susan Fuller
scored seven first quarter
points for Riverside.
The Cardinals stayed within
reaching distance of the
Pirates but were down by nine
at the half.
The Cardinals were out
scored by only two points in
the third quarter but went into
the final quarter down 20 -31.

Heppner JV team wins one,
loses one; record now 5-4
Playing one good half of
basketball was enough for the
Heppner boys junior varsity
team Thursday night, but not
enough to get the job done two
nights later, said Coach Brent
Eggers.
The Heppner JV's, who used
a 40 12 second half scoring
advantage to bury the Her
miston sophomore team 76 - 38
on Thursday, suffered the
second hulf blues Saturday in
The Dalles at Wahtonka from
a 66 40 defeat.
The weekend split left the
Mustangs' record at 5 4.
Although Heppner led 36 - 26
at halftime against dermis

The Cardinals finally got the
monkey off their backs as they
defeated the Dufur Rangers 53
- 47 at Dufur on Saturday
night.
The Cardinals got an edge in
the first quarter as they took a
15 -13 lead. The Rangers came
back in the second quarter to
take a 21 - 25 lead at the half.
The Cardinals came out of
the locker room burning as
they racked up 18 third
quarter points and tied the
score at 3t

time this year on Friday. Jan.
21. The Cardinals were de
feated 29 - 42.
The Cardinals were out
scored 2 - fi in a low-scoring
first quarter. In the second
quarter, the Cardinals were
outscored by four points as the
(irizzlies took a 12 - 18 lead at
the half.
All of the Cardinals first half
points came on free throws, as
they sank 12 of 17.
The Cardinals were shut

Saturday's affair at Wah
tonka was a different story.
Heppner got into foul trouble
early but still trailed just 23 -
The Cardinals held the
Rangers to eight points in the
final quarter as the Cardinals
sank six of eight free throws in
the final quarter. The Cardi
nals marched to a victory over
the Rangers.
Tim I'atton led the Cardi
nals with 16 points, followed
by Donnie Taylor with 15.
The Cardinals shot 20 of 48
for 42 percent from the field
and 13 of 22 for 59 percent from
the charity stripe. The Ran
gers shot 18 of 53 for 34 percent
from the field and 11 of 17 for
65 percent from the free throw

The Cardinals had two girls
get hurt in the third quarter,
and two more fouled out early
in the fourth quarter. This
forced the Cardinals to finish
