To the editor:
With the bitter cold magni
fying the suffering of the
Polish people standing in long
food lines, CARE, the interna
tional aid and development
organization, guarantees de
livery of food packages to
those in greatest need: the
elderly, infants, and pregnant
and nursing women.
Dr. Philip Johnston, the
Executive Director of CARE,
recently returned from Po
land where top officials as
itrH him th hp
permitted to continue moni
toring the distribution of the
food packages. "CARE has
already distributed more than
100,000 23-pound food pack
ages, and our staff members
make spotcheck visits to the
beneficiary's homes to make
sure that the food is going to
the neediest people," Dr.
Johnston said.
"We are gearing up to
provide food for approxima
tely two million people each
day. but we can only supply as f
rrtnnv nrkn" as funds
permit. CARE must collect i
special funds to distribute
more packages in Poland
because we cannot cutback

To the editor:
We would like to take this
opportunity to share with the
community, one of the events
the local Elks lodge does for
the young people. We aren't
members so we were unaware
of the many activities they
provide kids.
Our daughter recently shot
in the local Elks Hoop Shoot
contest and won. After winn
ing district at Hermiston, she
then was to go to Corvallis for
state competition. The local
lodge provided for the trip's
expenses. All arrangements
were taken care of by the

Rebecca Joan Fulleton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roice
Fulleton of Echo, and D. David Cannon, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Doyle Cannon, Bell City, Louisiana, were united in marriage
on December 26, 1981. The 7 p.m. ceremony took place at the
United Methodist Church, Heppner, with the Rev. S. Michael
Sheridan officiating.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an ivory
semiformal knit dress with a chantilly luce overlay and a
high stand up collar. A schiffli embroidered lace bodice had a
peplum ruffle at the waist. Her derby hat was accented with
an illusion veil and pouf elbow length streamers. She carried
a bouquet of pink sweetheart roses.
Diana Ball of Heppner, sister of the bride, was matron of
honor. Laurie Cannon, Leisa Cannon, sisters of the groom,
Jackie Roeser and Ruby Shear, sister of the bride, were
bridesmaids. Junior bridesmaids were Andrea Ball,
Heppner, niece of the bride and Cathleen Cannon, sister of
the groom.
Todd Cannon of Bell City, brother of the groom, was best
man. Ushers were Phil Urbach, Rick Centner, Archie Ball
and Dan Roeser.
Music was provided by Carley Drake of Heppner and Ella
Mae Green of Lexington was vocalist. Songs performed
included "Feels So Right" and "May I Have This Dance."
Candelighters were Cathleen Cannon and Andrea Ball.
Duane Ball was ringbearer and Christi Cannon, sister of the
groom, was flower girl.
A wedding reception was held at the Heppner Elk's Lodge,
a three tier white cake, decorated with pink sweetheart
roses was served by Sherree Mahoney of Heppner. Ruth
Nutting, also of Heppner served coffee. Punch was served by
Inez Erwin, Heppner, and the guest book was attended by
Teresa Sisk of Pendleton. Barbara Bishop of Pendleton was
in charge of gifts.
The bride is a graduate of Cal State University, Eastern
Oregon State College and Blue Mountain Community
College. The groom attended Louisiana Tech and the
University of Tennessee.
After a wedding trip to the mountains, the couple is at
home in Echo where the bride is a substitute teacher at
Umatilla Schools. The groom is a professional calf roper.

. A reception in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Cloy.W. Dykstra will

fiftieth wedding anniversary on Saturday, Jan. 30. The
