for your television or stereo,
microwave or Runs. They only
care about the property that

offices.
Your Slate Police would like
you lo be suspicious of
vehicles not normally in your
area, especially those that
reverse direction f.flen or are
driving slowly. Stationwagons
and vans are favored by
burglars, but are by no means
the only vehicles thev use.
II someone has come lo your
door asking for direct ions lo
someone's home thai is sup
posed to be living in your area,
but you don't know either the
person asking or the "neigh
bor." then chances are very
good you were nearly a
burglary victim. It's not
uncommon for burglars to
knock on a door before
entering a residence just to
make sure there isn't anyone
home. Should someone answer
(he door, thev use anv excuse
for being there, including the
one listed above.
Be suspicious and reMirl lo
the police suspicious circum
stances. Ten limes more
arresls come from neighbors
reporting suspicious circum-
si.itires ibiin iM-nir from
routine police pilrols.
There are as manv burglar
ies occurring during davlighl
hours as occur during the
hours of darkness. Watch your
neighbors' homes. In rural
areas, have a neighbor drive
into your place and check the
house, barns and corrals.
Burglars look for an easy
target. Over one-third of all
burglaries in (liecm show no
signs of forced enlrv - doors or
windows are left' unlocked
('so deadbolls. pins or dowels
to secure doors and windows.
Use iighlx and radio or
television on timers when no
one is home. Mnrk your
property and put slickers
indicating (hat you've done so
on doors and windows. Photo
graph antiques and pul com-
plcfe descriptions on the back
of each pholo. Ilse lighting
over each door, and area
lights for sheds and barns.
Most burglars are not skil
led professionals, but are
males and females often
under (he age of 18. They cost
over ; $18 million in lost
property alone, not to mention
the cost " of repairs from
vandalism that almost always
accompanies the burglary.
Your Stale Police Depart
ment wants you to be aware

criminals know they are not
