Hugh W. Perrin
PILOT ROCK Hugh
Perrin, 86 of Pilot Rock,
former Heppner resident, died
Sunday, Dec. 27 in Pendleton.
Born Sept. 18, 1895, he
resided in Oregon all of his
life. He was raised in the lower
McKay area. He farmed eight
years in the Heppner area.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1 p.m. at
the Folsom-Bishop Funeral
Chapel in Pendleton. Inter
ment was at Olney Cemetery
in Pendleton.
Mr. Perrin was a member of
the I.O.O.F.
Last May he and his wife
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary.
, Survivors include his wife, -Frances
of Pilot Rock.
Folsom-Bishop Funeral
Chapel was in charge of
arrangements.

BOARDMAN Noel Felipe
Alvarez Perez, 10, Boardman,
died Friday, Dec. 25, 1981 at
his home.
Recitation of the Rosary
was held Sunday at Burns
Mortuary Chapel, Hermiston,
and Funeral Mass was Mon
day, Dec. 28 at Our Lady of
Angels Catholic Church in
Hermiston, with burial at the
Hermiston Cemetery.
Perez was born July 22, 1971
in Mexico. He had lived at
Boardman for two years.
He was a member of the
Catholic Church.
Survivors include his moth
er, Esther Alvarez, stepfath
er, Juan Zuniga, brother, Juan
Zuniga Jr., and sisters, Rox
anne, Areli, and Adriana, all
of Boardman.

BOARDMAN Charles C.
Rhodig, 86, Boardman died
Saturday December 26, 1981 at
Good Shepherd Hospital in
Hermiston.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at the Boardman
Community Church with bur
ial at the Boardman Ceme
tery. Mr. Rhodig was born April
21, 1985 at Almena, Kansas.
He had been a resident of
Boardman for 20 years and,
was a retired lineman for
Pacific Power and Light
Company.
He was a member of the
International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers and at
tended Boardman Community
Church.
Survivors include his wife,
Lola of Boardman; sons,
Charles, Eagle Creek, Darrel,
Granite City, 111., Donald,
Peru, Kansas, and M.B.,
Sacramento, Calif.; a daugh
ter, Inez King, Boardman;
sisters, Nellie Abbott, Phoe
nix. Ariz., and Esther Gagnon,
San Diego, Calif.; 15 grand
children. 34 great-grandchild-

HEPPNER Winn L. Crist,
68, died in Portland, Wednes
day, Dec. 23, 1981.
Mr. Crist was born April 9,
1913, in Sterling. Colo., the son
of Franklin and Charlotte
Adams Crist. He was married
in 1936 to Edith Dedr'e
Gatewood at Brush, Colo.
He had been a resident of
Heppner for 27 years, moving
here from The Dalles. An
electrician, he engineered and
constructed the original Hep
pner T.V. system. Together
with his wife and children, he
owned and operated "Winn
Dee's Snack Shack," which
was located at the old Fair
building. He also had a small
"Fix-It" and radio repair shop
for a time, and was manager
of the Heppner Elks Lodge for
several years.
Mr. Crist was a member of
the Heppner Lions Club and
Heppner B.P.O.E. No. 358.
Private committal services
were held Monday, Dec. 28, at
Heppner Masonic Cemetery.
Memorial services were held
at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30,
at the Heppner Elks Lodge.
Mr. Crist is survived by his
wife, Dee, Heppner; son
Michael, Moses Lake, Wash.;
daughter Cheryl Berry, Colo
rado Springs, Colo.; a brother,
Meredith, also of Colorado
Springs, and six grandchild
ren. Sweeney Mortuary was in
charge of arrangements.

IRRIGON Edward V.
Root, 52, Irrigon, died Satur
day, Dec. 26, 1981 at Good
Shepherd Hospital in Hermis
ton. Memorial services were
held Tuesday at Burns Mortu
ary Chapel in Hermiston.
Mr. Root was born Nov. 19,
1929 in South Dakota. He had
been a resident of Irrigon for
three years and was formerly
of Rock Springs, Colo.
He was a member of the
Boardman Eagles Lodge and
Iron Workers Local 732, Poca
tello, Idaho.
Survivors include his wife
Patty, Irrigon; father, Verne
Root, Eagle Point; sons,
David and Donald at Poca
tello, Idaho, Otis of Umatilla,
and Gary, Michael, and Stev
en, all of Irrigon; daughters,
Wanda, Pocatello, and Ann
Robinson, Casper, Wyo.; a
brother, John Root, Twin
Falls, Idaho, sisters, Mary
Heiken, Creswell, Grace Wag
goner, Buehl, Idaho, Helen
Magoffin, Shoshone, Idaho,

Mr. and Mrs. Mike Benge
Mike Benge and his bride Sophiny (nicknamed Ny) were
greeted by relatives and friends at a reception at the -Ralph
Marlatt home on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 27.
Mike and Ny were married in Paris in a Cambodian
, ceremony this fall and are now making their home in
Washington, D.C. where he works with the Bureau of Science
and Technology's Division for International Development
under the U.S. Department of State. His particular project is
innovative forest technology, and he is working at
introducing some remarkable, rapid-growth species of trees
into less developed countries.
Mike states that now, under the budget limitations imposed
by the Reagan Administration, his travel abroad is "very
limited." He hopes to do more field work in the future.
Mike and My have been visiting in the home of his parents

REPORT
The Morrow County Sher
iff's Office at the Morrow
County Courthouse in Heppner
handled the following calls
during the past week:
On December 22 Jerry
Arthur Stefani, Springfield
was arrested for allegedly
violating a restraining order
by Morrow County Sheriff
Larry Fetsch.
On December 26. a Board
man ambulance responded to
a call from Mrs. Rhodig. Paul
Smith Road. Boardman for a f
possible heart attack victim.
The patient was transported to
Good Shepherd Hospital in
Hermiston.
On December 27 Clifford
Pool. 65. Boardman. died of
natural causes at his resi
dence. A Boardman ambu
lance responded. He was
taken to Burns Mortuary.
