Gift bos decoration from Mary Ana Cerullo, reporter,
proofreader, layout, advertising
The idea of a gift box decoration began between my
grandmother and a close friend before I was born. My
grandmother's friend made the decoration one Christmas
and for years afterward the two women gave each other gifts
using the decorated box.
Materials needed: roll of cotton, construction paper,
scissors, crayons or colored pencils, and glue.
Instructions:
1 - Cut the shape of Santa's hat from red construction
paper.
2 - Glue the hat to a sheet of pink or flesh colored paper.
3 - Cut out a beard and moustache from the cotton and glue
it to the flesh colored paper to begin forming a face.
4 - Cut strips of cotton and attach them to Santa's hat and to
his face as eyebrows. f
5 - Take a tuft of cotton, roll it into a ball and glue onto the
tip of the hat.
6 - Cut a small oval shape in a piece of red paper to use as
Santa's nose.
7 - Glue the nose just above the moustache.
8 - With a pink or red crayon or pencil draw in a mouth
under the moustache.
9 - Draw in two round eyes with a black pencil or crayon.
10 - Cut off the excess pink paper so only Santa is left.
11 Glue Santa onto a neutral shade of paper.
12 Glue the whole thing to the top of a git box.
For variation, one can also make an angel using cotton for
the wings or even a Christmas tree just using different colors
of construction paper.
The gift box decoration would be a fun Christmas project to
do with children when gift wrapping time draws near.
