EOSC Homecoming October Fest slated
Promising an expanded
schedule of free entertain
ment, the 1981 Eastern Oregon
- State College Homecoming
and October Folk Festival will
open festivities at noon, Fri
day, October 17.
"There are quite a few
changes in the event this year
and I think they will make this
one of the best Homecomings
in some time," said Student
Activities Director Yvonne
Tagge.
"Last year everyone enjoy
ed the free Main Stage
Entertainment so much tat
this year we decided to cancel
the big concert and put all out
resources into a series of
individual acts which will
perform almost continuously
throughout the celebration."

So far Tagge's line up.
includes Blue Mountain Old
Time Fiddlers, the folk band
Stone Ground, Commotion
Dance Troupe, Le Danse
Oriental, Germania Folk
Dancers, polka band and
several student groups.
"We've also added a free
street dance Friday night, 8
p.m., with the rock group Blue
Mountain Band. If the weather
is bad, which it unfortunately
is quite often," said Tagge,
'The group will simply move
inside and give a concert."
Activities will center in the
area of the Bavarian Tent,
which will house much of the
entertainment and where
guests will be able to enjoy
German foods and beverages.
Nearby will be fair boots
offering games, arts, crafts
and other foods.
"With things like the rocket
launch, parade, booths and
Children's Paradise the Folk
Fest is really a family event,"
said Tagge. Children's Para
dise, sponsored by the La
Grande Branch of the Ameri
can Association of University
, Women, will provide arts and
' crafts projects for children
aged four to 10 for a modest
fee from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday
and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on
, Saturday.

members and for former
student body presidents on
Saturday morning.
The College celebration also
features two ceremonies to
honor recent changes on the
campus. On Friday at 3 p.m.
the new bronze sculpture in
the Amphitheatre area will be
dedicated. On Saturday at 10
a.m. the Administration
Building will be renamed in
honor of the college's first
president, Harvey Inlow. At
the same time the Classroom
Building will officially be
renamed in honor of Amanda
Zabel, an early English pro
fessor. All three ceremonies
are open to the public.
One big change this year
will be the Homecoming
Parade which has been moved
to Saturday at 12:30. Accord
ing to Tagge. the parade will
include the La Grande and
Baker High School Bands, the
Walia Walla High School
Junior ROTC Drill Team,
several floats, vintage cars
and special entries. She said
the parade would begin on
Adims Avenue, proceed
through downtown to 4th
Street, take 4th Street to G
Avenue and then take G
Avenue to the EOSC Stadium
where the EOSC Mounties and
University of San Fancisco
football teams will meet in the
traditional 1:30 p.m. Home
coming game.
More free entertainment is
scheduled for after the game.

state forestry chief
A new chief of forestry,
Robert E. Metzger, 46, has
been selected to supervise the
Bureau of Land Management
forestry program in Oregon
and Washington, according to
William G. Leavell. BLM state
