EOSC Invitational
meet Oct. 3

lege Cross Country funs will
get a chance to see the
Mounites at the annual EOSC
Invitational meet October 3. in
La Grande.
The Mounties will be looking
to improve on last year's
second place finish at the
home meet. The men's race
will get underway at 11 a.m.
and the women will start at
11:30 a.m.
This EOSC men's team will
be returning six lettermen
from the 1980 campaign while
the entire women's team from
last year was lost through the
graduation of Konda Burnette.
Mountie Coach Gary Feasel
has brought in three women
for 1981 including a Junior
College Ail-American from
Paisley, OR, Anne O'Lcary.
She placed second in the
National Championships last
spring in track.
Leading the Mountie men
will be junior Don Stearns who
was recently named Academ
ic Ail-American. Last year
Stearns placed 34th out of 314
at the National Cross Country
championships.
Winter camping
fees lowered
As a result of recent action
by the Oregon Transportation
Commission, individual camp
site fees for Orcgonians this
winter will be $4 per night,
" compared to a present range
of $5 to $7 dependent on the . .
type of site desired. The fee
for a primitive campsite will
drop to $3 from the present $4.
The reduction will be imple
mented at those parks normal
ly available for winter camping.

The Dept . of Motor Vehicle's Office in Heppner now houses
for public viewing, community displays of oil paintings by
local artists, knitted sweaters, caps and slippers, bIho crafted
by a local resident, antique furniture and an old cur
belonging to Shorty Peck . Most of the displays are in the buck
of the office though many of the oil paintings are on display
war the front windows of the office.

Allen Burkenbine. Heppner, got a big surprise Monday.
Sept. 14. when he oencd a bottle of Coke and found a picture
of a bicycle on the inside of the cap
Burkenbine, who purchased the Coke from Central Market
in Heppner said he expects the bike to arrive in about six to
eight weeks.
The contest, runs from July 27 to Dec. 31, 1!)HI and the odds
