School board opts for separate
tax base, budget elections
The Morrow County School
Board voted Monday night to
hold Heparate tax base and
budget elections in the school
district next year
Under Oregon State law the
district is required to ask
voters for a new tax base next
vear. and the board had the
option of combining that
request with the regular
1SW2H3 operating budget
Superintendent Matt Io
herty told the board the
district iK operating with a
1916 tax base of "about
$r.(K).(HKi." The base is the
amount the district can tax
without a vote of the people.
The Iniard voted to hold the
regular school operating levy
first, on the last Tuesday in
March, and hold the tax base
election later, on the third
Tuesday in May.
Hoardmembers indicated
the separate vole would give
voters a clearer voice on
whether or not they wanted a
new base in the district.
