Lopez Paving Co. of Hood River is contractor for the project, and says it will bring in about 40 men to complete the job. The above picture was taken across from the former Peter Lennon Ranch on Balm Fork . Tuesday Don Johnson, resident engineer for the Corps of Engineers, told the Chamber of Commerce that Lopez will handle the relocation of the Willow Creek road, the building of a bridge over Balm Fork and one Van Marter. and Bryant; I,ch Schwab Tire Center; and Pettyjohn Farm and Builders Supply. The six travelers had tnerr own age-tailored classes which the signed up for In advance. Some offerings were: Clowning; Creative Drama; Drinking, Drugs, Decisions: Silelz Culture; Skin Care and Makeup; Gun Safety; Stained Glass; and Swing Dance. Others were: Wheat Weaving; Balancing Rations; Cattle Reproduction; Horse Ground Training; and Welding. Many others, too numerous to mention, were also offered. While staying In campus dorms, the 4 H members had "Time for Friends," which was the theme for the 1981 411 Summer Week. Many of the activities were designed to promote the building of lasting friendships. A guest speaker talked about "Friendship in .l .f 1A : J the 80's" and the support that friends need to receive from you to continue. One cannot always draw upon friends for support without offering sup port in return. "Friends are like a savings account; they grow In direct proportion to the interest they receive." A former 4 H er, Julie Grieb, Uxlngton, volunteered to be a "counselor" for approximately 25 girls. It's somewhat akin to being a banty hen with 25 chicks. It can be challenging to lead the girls to new events and Ideas while also watching to make sure all 25 are still with you. During the week, many friends were made, but also, the feeling that those friends that you want to keep need to be cultivated If you want to keep them. Many 4 H ers will take "Time for Friends" at next year's 411 Summer Week. over Willow Creek, and the relocation of a city water line and storage tank to Cemetery Hill above Heppner. He said the road relocation should be completed by July 1, 1982. The main contract for construction of the dam itself will be awarded by Sept. of this year with work to begin sometime next spring, Johnson stated. Johnson said flags placed above the old Peter Lennon place on Balm Fork mark where the Balm Fork bridge will be built. He stated that material for construction work is beginning to move into town now, and that pipe for the water line relocation is coming in by truck at this time. 4 L.
