DIVISION 3 -
4-H COLT GROUND TRAINING
All age contestants compete together. Entrants will do as many of the 14 tiems
listed in Step-4B of the Oregon 4-H Horse Advancement Program as they can in the
fifteen minute time limit. Contestant must give judge a list of exercises to be
attempted. Judging will be based on how all items atempted are accomplished. Colts
must be born in 1979, 1980, or 1981.

4-H ENGLISH RIDING CLASSES
F.NGISH EQUITATION
LOT
1. Beginners and Juniors
2. Intermediates
3. Seniors
Horses to be shown at the walk, trot, and canter both ways of ring. To be judged 50
percent on performance and 50 percent on hands and seat. Required movements in
4-H Horse contest outline. Either hunt seat or saddle seat tack and attire acceptable.
Riders will be judged on effective use of aids and horse control. Emphasis on posture
and balance.
Ill T SKAT EQUITATION OVER FENCES
LOT
1. Beginners & Juniors
Rid'TS lo be judged over a course of 6 fences, maximum, not to exceed 2 feet, 6
inches in height. Jumps may include post and rail, brush, oxer, crossed poles, and or
gate. Course to be posted. Any or all contestants may be called back to perform at
three gaits or any lest asked by judye. To be judged on performance and hands and
seat . Except for refusals, jumping faults of the horse are not to be considered unless it
is Ihe result of the rider's ability. Three cumulative refusals will eliminate. If a
refusal occurs in a double or triple, riders shall rejump all elements of the
combination. Hard hats with chin straps and bonis required Hunt seat tack and attire
or modificajions of same accepted Spurs and crops are optional.
2. Intermediates
Riders to be judged over a course of nine fences, maximum, not to exceed three feet
in height. Jumps may include post and rail, brush, coop. wall, oxer, crossed poles,
gate, and or picket fence. Judging and performance other than jumping to be the
same as in the above class. Course to be posted.
3. Seniors - same as Intermediates, above.
DIVISION 5 - 4-H TRAIL HORSE CLASS
Judged on performance and manners wilh emphasis on smoothness with which
rider controls horse and negotiates obstacles in prescribed course. NOT TO BE
JUDGED ON SPEED There will be a time limit on each individual After two
refusals or unnecessary delays, the participant must pass and go on to the next
obstacle. There will be a minimum of five obstacles used from the following: Walk
through cavalletti. open and close gate, simulated water obstacle, walk over bridge,
drag rope, back through marked course, dismount and mount on off side, mailbox,
carry object to specified point, lead horse over jump or obstacle, sidepass. Contestant
will be scored on each obstacle and given a total score for performance based on
poise, manners, use of aids, and smoothness of performance. Exhibitors may show
English or Western.

plans for making it, where it would be used, for what birds, an actual picture where it

DIVISION 2 - 4-H GEOLOGY
At least 50 percent of the specimens must have been found by the exhibitor and at
least 5 of the specimens collected during the current 4-H year.

The numbers or amount of each vegetable required for plant and collection exhibits
can be found in the 4-H Vegetable Garden Exhibit guidelines, 4 H 2331.
