hearings set
June 30
Mule deer and Rocky Moun
tain elk management objec
tives will be the subject of a
public hearing in LaGrande on
June 30 by the Oregon Fish
and Wildlife Commission. The
hearing will begin at 7:30
p.m. in the Classroom Audit
orium at Eastern Oregon
State College and anyone
interested in presenting writ
ten or oral comments is
invited to attend.
According to Allan Kelly,
commission chairman, the
hearing has been set to allow
eastern Oregonians an oppor
tunity to testify on the
management objectives with
out having to travel to
hearings in Portland.
A copy of the proposed
objectives may be obtained by
writing to: Wildlife Division,
P.O. Box 3503. Portland. OR
97208. The Commission will
consider making a final de
cision on the management
objectives at their July 24
meeting in Portland.
Story hour to
resume June 25
Story hour at the Heppner
Library, sponsored by the
AAUW, will resume on Thurs
day, June 25, from 10:30 to 11
a.m. and will continue
throughout the summer.
"All kids are invited," said
an AAUW spokesperson. "We
encourage mothers to come
and take a turn at story
telling."
Ice cream
social
Sunday
Everyone is invited to
attend an ice cream social this
Sunday at 4 p.m. at the
Heppner City Park, weather
permitting.
The social, sponsored by the
First Christian Church in
Heppner, will feature games
for children and softball for,
junior high age kids, and will
include a short service.
Those attending should
bring ice cream or cookies.

Wheat growers will have the
opportunity to learn about the
results of recent research on
dryland wheat production and
other timely topics at the
Columbia Basin Agricultural
Research Center Field Davs,
says Bob Costa. Morrow
County Extension agent. All
interested persons are invited
to attend the Field Days at the
Pendleton Station on June 24
and at the Sherman Station at
Moro on June 25.
The Field Day session at the
Pendleton Station, nine miles
north of Pendleton, will begin
nt 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at 4
p.m. Some of the topics on the
program are Water Conserva
tion in Wheat-Fallow Agricul
ture. Spring Grains, Small
jrain Variety Trials. Methods
f. Herbicide Incorporation,
Chemical Control of Cercos
porella Foot Rot, No-Till
Seeding and Fertility, and a
legislative update. The pro-
iram will include many well
tnown agricultural scientists,
as well as State Representa
tive Bob Harper.

tion Techniques for Cheat
grass Control, Testing of
Cereal Varieties Available to
Dryland Farmers In Eastern
Oregon. Modified Tillage
Practices, Cereal Varieties
for the Coming Years, and a
legislative update. The pro
gram will include many well
j known agricultural scientists
including the highly honored
cereal breeder Warren Kron
stad, as well as State Repre
sentative Bill Bellamy.
