4-H LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST
Open to all 4-H livestock members. 4-H members must allow their animals to be
used in the contest if asked by the County Agent.
Each contestant shall judge 2 classes of each of the following: beef, sheep and
swine and submit written reasons for one class and oral reasons for one other, Reason
classes to be designated by the official judge.

All animal must be prereRistered by August 10 at County Extension Office.
Members must be present to show their animals. Each member will wait for the
jude to come to him. then take his animal from the cage or pen and carry it to the
judging table.
Any 4-H exhibitor unable to show their animals must make preparations for them
to be shown as the animal will not be judged in the cage or pen.
All exhibitors must supply their own feed and water and are responsible for the
t are of their entries Cages and pens must be kept clean and neat. Failure of exhibitor
to tend his animals shall result in forfeiture of any or all premiums.
DIVISION 1 - 4-H POULTRY
4-H birds will be disqualified for any of the following defects: crooked feet, leg,
spine, blindness, absence of tail feathers, dirty or for having any other defects or
ailments. This will relate to showmanship as well.
Entries in single classes cannot compete in pens.

4-H rabbits may be disqualified for any of the following defects or ailments:
crooked feet, legs, spine, neck or tail, lop ears, blindness, absence of tail or ears, pot
belly, missing or buck teeth, rupture, vent disease, or infected sores. They may be
placed down but not disqualified for being over or under weight for their age class or
having other defects or ailments.
A doe which will kindle within one week ot the fair or a doe witn young titter under
2 weeks old cannot be exhibited.

4-H HORSE JUDGING CONTEST. AUGUST 22. 8:34 a.m.

Entrants must be preregistered by August 10 at County Extension Office.
Open to 4-H members enrolled in a 4-H project in Morrow County.
No stallions over the age of one year are allowed in 4-H contests.
Each member must use same horse for showmanship and equitation or
showmanship and trail, but are not required to use same horse for both Western and
English classes.
Contestant's must ride horses they have owned and-or trained since Jun 1, 1981 and
must do all work possible in preparations fo showing the horse.
The horse contests will be conducted according to rules and recommendations of the
"4-H Horse Contest Outline. 4-H 1301." and the "Oregon 4-H Horse Project, 4-H 130."
except contestants will be asked to do various exercises in any order requested by the
judge.
Type of equipment Western stock saddles, bits 4c reins optional, hackamore
bosals. snaffles acceptable. Hackamore bits, tie downs, running martingales and
draw reins are not allowed. Plain leather or flat churb chains must be inch in width.
Dress should conform to the class. Boots are required, hats and spurs optional. No
chaps allowed except in trail horse class.
There will be no horses on trail or jumping course after course set-up. There will be
no horses except in trailer area, arena and far east part of grounds.
Age classification of horse contest exhibitors:
Beginner first year members who are in 4th or 5th grade
Junior - 5th and 6th grades - second or third year members
Intermediate - 7th. 8th, 9th grades
Senior 10th, 11th, 12th grades
The Ail-Around award is based: 1-3 from Showmanship, 1-3 from Western
Equitation, and 1-3 from either Trail or English Equitation. For All -Around award in
each age group only one horse's points will count. Entrant will specify which horse on
entry blank to count points on. Entrant will also specify whether they want points for
Trail or English Equitation.

DIVISION 1 - 4-H HORSE SHOWMANSHt
Basis for scoring is: Club member - 25 percent, horse and equipment - 25 percent,
showing - 50 percent. Showmanship is the exhibitor's demonstration of
sportmanship, courtesy, grooming, poise, confidence, and of how to Fit, train, and
show horse to best advantage. Exhibitors may show in English or Western attire.

DIVISION 2 - 4-H WESTERN EQUITATION
Basis for scoring : Clothing and equipment -15 percent, seat and hands 35 percent,
and performance 50 percent. In all divisions, horses will be worked as a group at a
walk, trot and canter both ways of the ring. The judge will then ask each individual for
any or all of the movements listed in 4-H Contest Outline.
