A cowboy tries his luck
Wet weather dampened the
grounds, but not the enthus
iasm, as contestants from
throughout the Northwest
came to Heppner over the
weekend for the eleventh
annual Morrow County Junior
Rodeo.
One hundred sixty six en
tries from Oregon. Washing
ton. Idaho and California
signed up in 14 events for the
big three-day event with
performances Friday. Satur
day, and Sunday.
Awards of spurs, buckles
and blankets were given out to
the winners Sunday when all
evnts were completed.
Results of the rodeo are as

and Mrs. Thomas Whipple of
lone, has been selected to
attend the Oregon Beaver
Boys' Stale this June 14-20 in
Eugene on the campus of the
University of Oregon. Brad.
1". has just completed his
junior year at lone High
School.
Beaver Boys' Stale is spon
sored by the American Legion
as an educational program in
government studios and lead
ership. To be selected Brad
had to maintain a 2 5 grade
average and be endorsed by
his school. The participants
are also selected on loader
ship, sportsmanship, scholar
ship, character and service to
their school and community.
During his stay in Eugene,
Brad will study courses of his
choice from a selection which
includes such subjects as

Brad has been working
exceptionally hard in school
this vear and has shown

his goals and meeting the
challenges necessary to reach
those goals Brad's mother
commented that he has really
settled down and has been
working hard "We're very
proud of him." she said. Brad
has plans for working Ihis
summer to earn some money
and hopes to go on to college
after high school to study to
