Oregon, Thursday, June 4, 1981 BMCC board renews 18 instructors' contracts Eighteen or the nineteen Blue Mountain Community College instructors who had been without contracts for next year were rehired Wed nesday. May 20. at the regular monthly meeting of the BMCC board of education. The rehiring of the instruct ors came in the wake of successful passage of the BMCC budget levy by 6.344 votes to 4.333. Both Umatilla and Morrow county voters endoresed the BMCC budget. In Umatilla, the vote was 5.538 yes to 3.663 no. Morrow voters numbered 8t6 yes to 670 no. When the college has a better picture regarding state fund ing the college budget com mittee will meet to consider what changes are necessary. The one instructor still without a contract is John Weddle. BMCC instrumental music instructor. A decision on that contract was postpon ed until the administration completes a review of staffing patterns for the music depart ment. In other business, the col lege board voted to approve a proposed construction and remodeling program as pre sented by Jim Lynch, archi tect. Total cost of the project is estimated to be $545,600 which includes an addition to the north side of Morrow Hall and several remodeling pro jects. The Morrow Hall addition will house college administra tive functions including: Ad missions Office. Business Of fice, evening division and instructional deans. The space vacated by these offices will provide additional room for the instructional programs Area students tc get OSU degrees June 7 Oregon State University graduates on June 7 will come from every county and almost every city in the state, including many from Morrow County. Those graduating from Mor row County include: 1 Boardman: Kevan R. Pratt, master of education. Heppner: Mark P. Sargent, bachelor of schience. science (with high scholarship): Allen M. McCabe. bachelor of science, liberal arts: Deborah K. Warren, bachelor of science, agriculture. lone: Joan M. Doherty. bachelor of science, liberal arts. Irrigon: Steven P. Doherty, bachelor of science, science. Lexington: Rebecca J. Lush, Bachelor of science, liberal arts (with high scholar ship). The 112th graduating class will be one of 'the largest ir university history. About 3.45( degrees are expected to be awarded this year, approxi mately the same as a year ago. The 112 year total will go over the 96.000 mark, starting with a graduating class of three -two men and one woman- in 1870 The graduation program, set for 2 p.m. in Gill Coliseum on campus, will be telecast again this years by Oregon's public broadcasting network. The stations include KOAC TV, Channel 7, Corvallis; KOAP-TV, Channel 10, Port land; and KTVR Channel 13. LaGrande. The employees will still work 40 hours per week, hut will not work on Fridays.
