The final meeting of this
year 80-81 for the lone
Extension Club war held at the
, home of Lisa Nelson Monday
night, May 18. Election of
officers for the corning year
was held, Old officers, Krisfy
Crowell. Robin Baker and
Lucy Tworek were replaced
with new officers. Kristy
Crowell will remain chairper
son, Marnie Anderson will be
the new vice-chairman, and
Delia Ileidcman will be secretary-treasurer.
Members present enjoyed a
tour of the Nelson's new home
and a dessert of strawberry
shortcake served after the
meeting. Plans for an editing
parly were discussed and a
June dale will be deckled upon
and members notified. The
get-together will be held In
order to edit the material
submitted for the upcoming
lone Community Cookbook
which will be available this
coming fall. Chairperson
Kristy Crowell announced that
the September meeting will be
held In the home of Debbie
Morgan in lone. It Is hoped
that the guest for the Septem
ber meeting will be Mrs. Suze
Marshall of the Children's Aid
Society in Hermlston. Further
details and dates will be
announced prior to the Sept.
meeting.
Saturday and Sunday. May
23 and 24. will he celebration
time for the Lundell family.
Members of the Lundell fam
ily are holding a family
reunion, announced reunion
chairman Jim Swanson. Plans
have been made for a no-host
dinner and dance for all of the
Lundell clan at the Heppner
Elks Club on Saturday night.

Happy anniversary to the
lone Grand Squares square
dance club who hold their
anniversary dance this past
Friday night Foursquares of
dancers were present for the
evenings , festivities. with
guests from both Hermiston
and Pendleton. Darrell and
Bev Wilson were honored for
their thirteen years of service
to the club as caller and were
presented with a plaque-pen
rest by the club members
complete with engraving of
their appreciation. Mrs: Shir

After an evening of fun and
dancing, club members elect
ed new officers for next year.

Dorothy Warren will be secre
tary; and Marvin Epley will
be the new treasurer. The
next, and final dance of the
80-R1 season will be the 6th of
June. This dance will be a
council dance with guests
from Hermiston and Pendle
ton, as well as company from
the Olympia Grand Squares.
Olympia. Washington. Eight
couples are expected to be
visiting from Olympia. and
will be staying in the homes of
local club members. June 6,
will be the final dance of the
year, at the lone Legion Hall,
with potluck dinner at 6 p.m.

dancing beginning at 8 p.m.
Plans are well under way
for the Cystic Fibrosis Bike-A-Thon
to be held in lone on May
30. School children, pre
schoolers, and adults of all
ages are urged to join in the
fun and exercise of riding for
the C-F Bike-A-Thon. There is
io age limit on the Bike-A-rhon
so if you want to ride, go
let a sponsor sheet and get a
sponsor. Sponsor sheets are
available at Bristow's Market
and the Bank of E.O. in lone,
as well as the lone Grade
School. This year the course
will be a one-mile lap within
the city limits of lone so the
youngest of riders should still
be able to join in for even a few
laps for C-F. Registration will
begin at 9 a.m. and the event
will start at 10 a.m. No ending
time as yet has been set:
hopefully they will just keep
going until all the riders have
worn out. Course directions
will be available the day of the
Bike-A-Tnon.
Correction
Information given to the
Gazette-Times concerning the
story "Recreation director
sought for south end county
youth program" in the May 7
issue of the paper was in
error.
The resignation of Jim
Ackley, present recreational
youth director for South Mor
row County, will take place as
of June 30. not immediately,
as previously reported.
Juvenile Services Commis
sion was to have hired a new
director by May 20, to assume
duties by July 1.
Soroptimists
hold election
of officers
The first scheduled Sorop'
timist meeting of May was
held at the Wagon Wheel Cafe
May 7 and members enjoyed
slide show by Lenna Smith
of her trip to Nashville.
The 63rd Northwestern Re
gional Conference of Sorop
. timists was held in Anchor
age, Alaska May 8, 9 and 10 at
the Captain Cook Hotel and
was attended by four local
members, Jeanne Sumner,
Clista Venard, Marlene Gray
and Mary Goheen. A total of
372 members attended the
conference.
Election of officers for the
local club for the coming year
was held May 14. Those
elected were: president Gail
Burkenbine, vice president,
Jackie Allstott, treasurer -Clista
Venard, corresponding
secretary - Mary Goheen,
recording secretary - Bettie
Doherty, new board member -Elaine
George.
May 16, six Heppner mem
bers attended an area meeting
in Enterprise. Those from
Heppner were Gail Burken
bine, Jackie Allstott, Elaine
George, Ola Mae Groshen,
Bettie Doherty and Mary
Goheen. There were 38 area
members attending, including
District 3 Director Dorothy
Voruz of La Grande. She
reported in detail the resolu
tions considered at the meet
ing in Anchorage.
The next regular meeting in
Heppner will be May 21 at
noon at the Wagon Wheel and
the program will Consist of
reports on the conference to-Anchorage.
