Heppner. who has been active
in Extension and community
affairs throughout her life
lime. Mildred has been a 4 H
leader, a study group and
advisory council teacher, act

and her church. The award
came as a complete surprise,
and found Mildred working
diligently in the kitchen
helping with the luncheon for
Ihe day. Presenting the Mor
row County award was Ruth
McCabe, winner of the same
honor the previous year.
Morrow County's Study
Group of the Year award was
presented to the Irrigon Group
for the third year of that
honor. They are a group
involved in many community
projects' which included this
year support of Ihe SAFE
home for battered women.
Christmas project sewing for
needy children, and many
other civic projects. Nancy
Rogers, chairperson of the
Morrow Council, made Ihe
presentation to Ihe Irrigon
group. Nancy also serves as
chairperson of the frrigon
group.

Craig Ilea, son of Keith and
Judy Rea is a senior at lone
High School this year, He was
just one year old when his
parents purchased a pony.
Taffy, for him at the lone
.United Church of Christ's first
auction and barbecue, eigh
teen years ago this June.
Craig has an early June
birthday, so many of his
birthdays have been celebrat
ed at the June church activity.
Craig and his three brothers
have all grown up with their
pony and with the church
auction which brings many
people to lone each summer
looking fur bargains and an
enjoyable day for the whole
family. Craig's parents have
been active workers in the
auction since its beginning
and the boys have pitched in to
help make the annual event a
success.
Keith and .Judy Rea are
general chairmen for the
auction and barbecue which
will be held this year on
Saturday. June 6, at the
Willows Grange Hall in lone.
Ponies
up record
to 5-0
The Heppner Jr. High base
ball team is as hot as the
month of July. With a recent
26-6 win over Condon, the
Ponies upped their record to
5-0. This record includes an
early season forfeit by Echo.
With one game remaining in
the season. Coach Paul String
er says of his team "They are
an enthusiastic, confident
bunch of ball players who
really attack the baseball.
We have had good pitching
performances from Chuck
Coffman and Travis Hyatt.
"Key hitters this season
have been Coffman. Hyatt.
Campbell and Sporseen. The
team is composed of mostly
8th graders, with four 7th
graders, and three girls.
Of the girls, Coach Stringer
says "They have fit in real
well with the guys and have
alot of determination and
desire. They have added to the
team both in spirit and in
color."
Heppner plays host to Stan
field Thurs. to try and finish
the season undefeated. Game
time is set for 2 p.m.
